Masterpieces and Dramas of the Soviet Championships: Volume I (1920-1937)

This is a magnificent book. It is Chess history at its best. This book will surely be on every voters short list for the best book of the year award.

It worked as expected

A massive amount of research has gone into this and there are so many great stories and games. The translation and the organisation of the material was a little lacking but for anyone interested in chess history, this is well worth the purchase.

The book is good, layout a bit old fashioned which is appropriate. The stories and backgrounds are worth as much as the games. I am sure volume 2 will be even more worth it.
