China Beach Seasons 1-4 Bundle Complete Series

Video quality not bad but not great. VHS quality at best. As for the show itself... I was surprised how much I liked it. Think MASH set in vietnam without the humor, with much more attention paid to the nurses who belatedly deserve all the attention given here. Possibly the best part of the series is the original music of the era kept intact. This show is not about Vietnam vets getting blown to pieces but rather the young girls who had to sew the pieces back on a daily basis. In gory reality and in their own hearts. The acting is impeccable. I've never cried over a movie but I bawled at the end of the 4th episode, end of pilot. Because it was real. If you ever wanted to know the true cost of war displayed in a very intimate form, this is it.

This DVD box set is the best box set I've owned (20 sets total)! The set consists of 62 episodes, a 32-page book with letters from China Beach fans and people with Vietnam War experiences, and much more. The series itself is a faithful depiction of that tragic war. As a Vietnam- era veteran myself, this is the real deal. Be sure to get the DVD version that has the high-resolution transfer of the show from master tapes to DVD, and music in stereo. (Note: Some reviewers have said the transfer is VHS quality only; the latest and highest grade DVD box set is not the one they are talking about.)

I loved this when it was on TV when I was in college. My roommate, who was studying while I watched it, would know just when to throw a box of tissues to me as I started to cry.I miss that roommate because now I have to find my own tissues at the end of each treasured episode!I love every minute. Every. Minute.

This show now is a second look back at a series that when new was a look back. Because of that it has aged very well. As a Vietnam era Marine I am still impressed with it’s accuracy even though I am aware of its errors. This series has a strong feeling of time and place and this,enhanced by the “soundtrack” of the times transports me back to the days of jungle boots, utilities and od green t shirts. This was powerful tv for its time and that power has easily transcended the last 25 years. Dana Delany here truly shines in the role of a lifetime. The rest of the regular and guest cast is also outstanding and production values are high. Many of these episodes are both heart and gut wrenching and always with intended messaging. If you haven’t flown in a Huey helicopter you will feel like it. I highly recommend this series .

Just last month a friend of mine and I were discussing old TV shows and how great China Beach was. Also how the series only aired once and we had never seen any reruns. When found out it as available on DVD, I ordered it immediately. I was drafted during the Vietnam war and China Beach did a great job of depicting that time period. The complete series on DVD with the commentaries and interviews are superb.

They put a lot into getting the music sorted for this, and it sounds good. The video quality is as good as it was broadcast in 1988, which looks a bit rough on modern 4K HDTV sets of today. Still, being my first watch of this series since 1991 (i taped Tour of Duty and watched China Beach back then as they were on at the same time in a network rating war), it was good and as gripping as it was back in the day. It's worth getting if you're a fan of the show.

Show is great just seems to be very dark, lowly lit, and not sure if that is the quality or the fact that they tried to keep lighting more realistic?

Great packaging, great quality printing on DVD's and good quality of image of videos. Don't expect anything better than how it was originally broadcast. On your 4K TV it will not look so great but that is normal. It's recorded in Standard Definition. I am super glad they decided to keep the original 60's music by the original artist! It may have taken them some time to release it on DVD due to this because of royalties, but SO worth it!Get the set, it's the best!

The negative comment is not a reflection of the content of the DVD set. Neither I nor the intended recipient got the pleasure of viewing the DVDS. This was for a Christmas present and I was sent 2 of series 3 instead of 1,2,3,4.So very disappointed and such a hassle to send back to USA, just because someone could not give the order a check before it was dispatched.
