Fungal Conservation: Issues and Solutions

An essential reference
For anyone interested in fungal conservation, this is an essential reference. It is the only resource I am aware of that brings together contributions covering a variety of topics over a worldwide range. There is no shortage of species lists, rankings, organizations, charts, lists, and maps... It is great for finding a specific topic of interest and using ideas and references presented to "jump off" from and begin a wider search for more information. This book seems quite rare - no libraries in my city had it and even the museum collection and local experts didn't have one. If you can get a copy from somewhere like amazon for a fairly low price like I did, it is definitely worth the extra cost for shipping.Note that the book is becoming dated, being first published in 2001. Since then the IUCN has increased the number of fungal specialist groups to five and the International Society for Fungal Conservation was established. Statistics regarding red lists have changed since then. Some of the authors have already died (such as Maurice Rotheroe). The movement to include fungi in conservation concerns is still rapidly growing. That said I still consider the book relevant for today since so much more has to be done and most of the ideas and findings presented have timeless value.
