Many tried and tested methods but a good refresh for techniques and a nice read

Great ideas, research and explanation for why to follow the movement. It is a movement though that will need embedding across a school, rather than just one department to benefit fully from the methods described. Luckily it comes with all of the justification and evidence you need to sell it SLT.

This book challenges the idea that revision is something that students inherently know how to do and encourages educators, from newly qualified teachers and trainees to old-hands. There is clear advice and strategies for the whole range of levels, making this a useful book for reflection on our own practice, whole department leaders and for SLT.I am looking forwards to embedding more of these principles into my own practice and making revision a cultural thing in my learners’ lives as opposed to something only done when the spectre of assessment is looming.

I bought this thinking it might give me some insights into how to really go about getting my students to engage with revision. We always tell students about revision and describe what techniques work but they seem to always feel unprepared when it comes to the time to use it.To be honest I was disappointed. Maybe the author is good at getting her students to revise but there is nothing in this book that adds anything to what we already know about revision; it's pretty much the same old ideas repackaged. I'm not even going to take it to the charity shop - I recycled it.

I found this passionately-written book thoroughly readable and full of useful, applicable ideas. No more cramming ineffectively just for the test, only for whatever the student does take in to be forgotten soon after! Instead, this book shows how to build deeper, lasting learning through effective study skills.

This is a must buy.

A very well written and stimulating book for any teacher but particularly for colleagues with subject/senior leadership roles.
