I found the reviews for this item very varying so I’m motivated to chip in.My summary : for £8, I consider this good value if you wish to store a 25m light string.That’s the first thing. It stores 25 metres of string lights. That’s not clear. So because my sets are ridiculous and 50m long, I used two reels for one set. See the photo.Next, some rather angry reviews say that the two parts as sent are impossible to fit together. If you get angry and shove, yes. But it’s a knack, and not brute force. Line them up, look at the split prong facing yourself. Apply pressure either side then gently push from behind the prong you are looking at. It’s just a case of applying the push really close to the join. And in she pops.As for robustness, well it’s not like a reel for mains cable or fire hose, but then it isn’t going to get that sort of use. Think of an old, thin, washing basket made of plastic. That’s the vibe.All I say in summary is that after using 2 reels, and needing to buy 2 more reels, I bought 2 more of this item.I hope this helps.

Bought to store away some lengthy Christmas lights.Didn't find it difficult to put together at all , just line the two pieces up and press together. Don't know why some reviews say it was difficult,just follow the instructions and line up the correct joining pieces .

I cannot believe I have not thought of finding one of these handy dandy reels all my adult life. The one thing that stresses me out every single year is to untangle the Christmas lights to put on it and to get them off the tree again but no more! This year it was stress free getting them off and it is going to be a breeze to get them back on in December! I got my very long string of Christmas lights onto this and some string bead decorations, I am well impressed how much you can get onto this. I would highly recommend getting one of these or similar.

These reels arrive dismantled and the instructions are somewhat misleading, it tells you to simply press the two halves together after placing a handle grip in the middle. Well, try as hard as I dare without breaking the plastic mouldings, the two halves were near impossible to press together by hand over the moulded clips, in the end I used a tube to get pressure in the right place over the clips, this worked well and the result is a useful way to store your lights. A quick tip, start winding the lights from the opposite end to the power supply, whether battery or mains otherwise you will be trying to wind it on with the box or plug in the way. An improvement to the design would be to incorporate a storage clip in the middle well to hold the power box or plug, that would get it out of the way when winding the lights onto the reel.

I thought it was just me but looking at the comments this happens a lot. The two sides don’t fit together so I had to sellotape them to use it as needed it straight away.Do yourself a favour and buy another product.

Every year I spend over a hour untangling and wrestling with Christmas lights and promise myself I'll put the away better next time. And every year until now I've wound them around themselves and jammed them back in the box. But no more! This product feels a little on the lower quality side, but knowing that I'll have the lights on my tree in minutes this year means they're worth every penny.
