As the KA86 belt tracking is automatic this can save time and ensure that the sanding belt is kept in the correct alignment whilst completing those important sanding tasks. Quick change belt Due to the aggressive nature of a belt sander one characteristic it that the belt will need to be replaced on a regular basis. This heavy duty belt sander is fitted with a fast change lever mechanism to ensure quick and easy changing of the sanding belt. Once the new belt is fitted onto the sander the automatic tracking mechanism will ensure that the belt tracks true. Thumbs Up
I was thrilled to unpack the Black & Decker Belt Sander...it was big and orange and serious looking. It wasn't too heavy for me (I'm a female pensioner) and I couldn't wait to get started on various projects. My first attempt was terrifying. The sander became a wild beast trying to run away with me but once I knew what to expect it was marvellous to use. It makes sanding jobs soooo much easier and the results are a joy to see and touch.I would thoroughly recommend this tool for all those exciting projects you have in mind around the home or garden.

Basic and Definately DIY
This review is for the short version of this Sander.I purchased this to sand down pallet wood. I was probably drawn in by the price as its cheaper than some other sanders on sites like Screwfix and Toolstation being a short bersion sander and although I do not generally like B&D tools the fact it was from a well known brand gave me some confidence compared to the other unknown brands being sold onf Amazon. For what I bought it for its just about okay and no more than that. If Amaxon lived next door to me I woudl take it back but I can't be bothered with all the return stuff so will keep it for a back up. On the plus side, Its not heavy, is easy to manoeuvre and its easy to change the belts. I did notice the belt moving around a bit but that was probably due to me using it in a side ways motion rather than any design defect as implied by another reviewer. What I am dissapointed about is the lack of a variable speed (I should have read the spec more) and that when you put some pressure on it slows down considerably which is probably due to the low power of the motor. Also the supplied belt is joined rather than continuous so when the belt rotates it jumps on the wood and makes a banging noise. I would recommend buying some decent belts with the unit.Would I recommend this. Probably not. There are better sanders out there for not much more money and whilst price is a consideration in all purchases, there is little point buying an inferior product that does not do what you want it to in a way you expected. Check out the Erbauer EBS950 instead.

Good tool
You may need to review some safety features with the handle. The handle is to small with not enough room for you to be able to hold safely while descending the ladder. I had a small accident due to my finger being to close to the trigger. As I descended the ladder I went to change hands just as my left hand go hold of the machine my right index finger hit the trigger button, and ended up with my left thumb getting dragged in between the body and the rear wheel. Needless to say a trip to A&E was required. Lucky I didn’t lose my thumb but it was very close. I now have permanent nerve damage an struggle to pick things up.

Good
Used this to sand stair banisters. These are 3500 by 250 by 30. Coped with removing the gloss and other muck beneath. Did this outside. I had the Sander set up in the back garden and a painting / staining table set up in the front. I could then give the machine a break, clean & replace or clean the belt by going to the front and doing something else.I was surprised by how small it is but with the 40, 80, 120 grit procedure it ripped through that paint. My main problem was the muck underneath the gloss clogged my belts. I suspect there was varnish beneath and/or chemicals had been used as a method to remove in the past. The Black & Decker 'Mouse' is louder than this, the belts are easy to change. I drop a star as the dust collection bag just does not collect anything. I couldn't of done what I did indoors. All in all a good value machine and I will look after it. I have accumulated a few brownie points with it and will enjoy spending them.
