It's just as described, but...
It's well made, with a good light, but it turned out to be smaller than was useful for me doing needlework. For my purposes, it would be much more helpful for the magnified area to be larger, including the bifocal area. The bifocal area also gets in the way somewhat because it placed in the direct center at the bottom of lens which is where my eyes naturally fall while working on the material. In other words, the bifocal is in the direct line of vision of where I'm trying to work.It took some time trying readjust how to hold the material to be able to work on it. I ordered this one over other hands-free magnifiers because it was 2.5x opposed to most others that are 2x, yet even thought my vision is corrected to 20/20 with glasses, 2.5x still seems a little short of what I need to make it easy on my eyes. It has been useful for some other work that doesn't require quite as much precision as needlework.

It works pretty well. I occasionally have trouble figuring out where ...
I am using this for embroidery work when I am bedridden or when sitting watching tv. It works pretty well. I occasionally have trouble figuring out where I need it to sit on my chest- maybe my problem :0}. I really can not think of a way that I could make a hands free magnifier that would work better for what I need it for. I am Very happy with my purchase. I like that I can wrap the string around a few times to shorten the string if I want . Would definitely recommend for hand work while reclining or sitting on couch.

Exxcellent enabler.
I love this item. Without this ability to see the tiny stitches on size1 knitting needles, I would not be able to do the Fair Isle projects I love to do. I am currently making little kitten mittens for my grandchildren and would not be able to knit these at all because the stitches are so small that I can't see them clearly. It is easy to prop up on your chest, and the light shines down on your project to illuminate the field. The only issue, was that it was labeled as needing 2 double A batteries and actually uses 3 triple A batteries. But no problem, I can figure that out.I tend not to use the higher magnification section, but if you needed it, it's nice to have it there.

Nice little magnifying glass
This is the second magnifying glass I have purchased like this. It has good brightness and excellent clarity. I use it for cross stitch and needlework. The light is daylight brightness and has a good distribution over my projects.

Same magnification as 1.5x, I couldn't tell the difference
I had the Mighty Bright which is 1.5 x magnification and was looking for a little stronger magnification for sewing. This Ultra Optix is 2.5 x magnification and I have them side by side and with much checking I canโt see any difference at all. I tried it on both books and sewing machine stitches. It isn't any stronger at all which is disappointing. The light is worth getting, I'm glad to have it for sewing. More lamp light is needed but it does help supplement it.

Great tool for jewelry making
Great, but wish the bifocal was just a little bigger. I use this when working with jewelry and when you are making intricate designs or working with tiny little beads this is a true sight saver. I have one of the magnifiers that you wear on your head but it tends to cause headaches and this one does not. The light could be a little stronger and brighter but still very useful.

Base long; magnifying circle in the way
The base is a little long and I find the magnifier not as useful as I thought it would be. The Magnifying circle also gets in the way probably because the base is too long for me. Otherwise I am pleased I can knit again.

I love this product
I love this product. The only complaint I have is that the light is very small, and located at the base of the magnifying glass, casting a shadow on my hands as I work, so I don't have a very wide range to move around in an already small area.
