Master Dogen's Shobogenzo Book 1

Excellent translation
This is easily one of the best translations of the Shobogenzo. What it lacks in the flowing poetry of Dogen’s original writing, it makes up for with an accurate and lucid translation. Would recommend this along with the Tanahashi translation and any of the accompanying writings by Shohaku Okumura.

Kindle Version "not compatible"
This is an awesome book, but beware that it is not compatible ANY kindle currently sold, except the Fire Tablet with Alexa (used). Paper version strongly recommended, unless you have an old Kindle that is listed as compatible.

Pages fall out
I’m enjoying this translation, but in a 20 page chapter perhaps 5 of the pages fall loose from the spine when turning the page. The book was received New.

Great book but...
I don't understand why Amazon sells ebooks that aren't formatted for Kindle.

One of the best translations of Dogen's Shobogenzo
There are quite a few translations of Dogens Shobogenzo available in English. I like to work with this one as my primary reference for its effort be very close to the original and at the same time it is rather easy to read. Nearmans translation has also its qualities but it can be too descriptive and often is double the length, not getting the point. Tanahashis translation is also used often. It it is easy to read and clearly the shortes translation, yet by the continuous attempt to simplifiy a lot of the original meaning gets lost.
