A lovely movie with a side of fabulousness
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie - but then again, I'm 58! :) if nothing else, enjoy Jessica Lange's FABULOUSNESS throughout!

The best!!
Awesome movie - funny. One of our favorite. Maybe because of our age. Retired and can definitely relate.

A Bore
I only barely gave this a 2, and only because I save 1's for the terrible movies. This wasn't terrible, but it was not very good and was boring. I almost didn't bother to finish it. I'm not a fan of Shirley MacLaine but I like Jessica Lange... but I hated her in this. All of the characters were just crazy in some way, and not in a funny way. (I almost think Shirley MacLaine's character, Eva, was the most sane among them. Maybe that's why some of her fans thought this a bad part for her?)Eva's husband has just passed away and his insurance sends her $5 million by accident, instead of the $50K she should have gotten. She deposits it with the idea of giving it back once they discover the error, but suddenly her and her best friend Maddie are headed to the Canary Islands and living it up, staying in a fancy suite, buying things, gambling, and meeting some interesting people. Meanwhile, the insurance company finds the errors and sends an agent to check things out.I don't mind the premise. Again, my problem is that all the characters being very... odd. Even Eva's daughter (Demi Moore) is a little goofy. I'm assuming this was intended, but I didn't like any of them. And it was boring -- I had no interest in what any of these people were doing. And some things towards the end just didn't make sense and I had a few huh?? moments. Maybe this is what I get for hunting down the freevees.

Surprised by Great Comedic Delivery
Surprised at a 5 star rating? I read Shirley's book Above the Line first and knew all of the behind the scenes drama. So to see how it was pulled off anyway, despite no money and sweltering heat, I decided to watch Wild Oats. I think actresses who defer salaries, crews who work for scale and writers and a director working only for a vacation is saying a lot. All of those people wanted to be there, wanted to be together at that particular time in their lives. Knowing that, caused a lot of interest on my part. I also noticed things that Shirley did not mention in her book, things that Jessica Lange did, as an actress hard me sitting up straight and paying attention. I watched it twice. Yes, Demi Moore was most forgettable in this role, but she needed to do that. For herself. She needed to get back into being in front of the cameras, she doesn't need the money, but is smart enough to know that staying busy and staying interested and involved keeps one out of trouble. Hooray for her! Look past some of the dumber lines at the end, easy to do as the movie moves very quickly. But this is a movie where the book does not spoil anything for viewers. Buy it. It's not at all bad.

Shirley is still pretty.
I honestly wanted to like this movie. But in my opinion, it was like a bad tiktok that made no sense. I'm glad I listened to Shirley's version of the whole debacle. As usual, she assed the problem in making the movie. I was even disappointed by Shirley changing her old stories. In Out on a Limb, she said the book fell off the shelf at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore which was in California. Yet in this story Wild Oats, she claims that even happened in Africa. I trust that her mind is still sharp. Surely she has not fallen victim to age like ordinary mortals we all know and love. All I can say is that Shirley still looks pretty at dinner.

Start with "Above the Line"!
I sought out this film after having listened to "Above the Line", Shirley MacLaine's highly entertaining book about the making of the film. The book gave nothing away about the film plot, just the cast and filming experiences. Unfortunately I never saw any information on the film's release. Then, lo and behold, it was available on DVD. I ordered it as soon as I discovered it was available. It exceeded expectations and was a delightful counter measure for Covid 19 pandemic isolation ennui. I heartily recommend the film AND the recorded book be purchased as a set. Play the book first, watch the film second.

Funny Movie, If You Appreciate Cheesy Humor.......
We rented this movie via the Amazon Video app and had no issues with streaming. Both my husband and I thought this was a good movie.I enjoyed the friendship piece between the two main characters and definitely felt it was more of a chick flick than anything else but my husband enjoyed the humor too.I think you have to like cheesy humor to like this movie because most of the laughter this film brings is because of things that are just outright wrong (from start to finish!). I won't spoil it for you by clarifying just what I mean because I think it would take away from the humor. It had us laughing out loud from the beginning though and was primarily a clean, funny movie (sex scenes were mostly short and the PG13 rating seems fitting). We enjoyed the characters and the acting. Some far fetched scenes but it was in good humor and overall, worth the laughter. Cute story, recommended.

Not wild about it
Thought the beginning was off to a good start with humour and wit and then it just went downhill from there. Shirley MacClaine and Jessica Lange are good actors who deserved a better scrip. Demi Moore was miscast as an uptight boring daughter. Unbelievable plot. The best part of the film was the scenery at The Canary Islands.

Ok
I hate reviewing films , books etc because I think this a matter of choice and what suits one doesnโt apply to someone else , so I wish Amazon would stop asking me to review these, I donโt like to put anyone of from buying or watching this Has I said it was ok

Decent Comedy.
A lovely lighthearted comedy, warm and certainly worth watching and having a few laughs with. All the actors play their parts well, especially Shirley, MacLaine, Jessica Lange & Billy Connolly. I would recommend this film to friends, family to pass an hour half with.
