Dark and intense stories
Not exactly “light “ reading, but very interesting when the mood strikes.

Awesome book
I've finally received this tick volume today. It is very nicely published edition of Poe's works of 1989. The print is solid and not small at all (at least for my eyes). The pages have tanned of age a little but, surprisingly enough, the book itself is absolutely intact, like brand new.I was always looking for Poe's critical writings and this volume has it. Looking forward to long fall evenings of reading with a glass of good armagnac or bourbon. Recent watching "The Fall of the House of Usher" on Netflix has contributed to my strong desire to buy this book and re-read Poe's stories and poems after almost 25 years.

The Kindle edition has a technical issue. Despite that, it's still good value for the money.
I'm a big admirer of Poe, whom I consider one of the greatest writers ever. That's why being able to get his complete works for just 1.18 dollars (I mean the Kindle edition) seemed nothing short of unbelievable to me at first. Unfortunately, there's a reason for that low price. The table of contents is incomplete. It only covers the first half of the book, give or take. Now, in the case of a normal, printed book this wouldn't be a problem. I rarely use the table of contents myself (in fact, in most cases I'd probably not even notice if it were missing entirely), preferring instead to just leaf through the book until I find what I want. But an e-book is different. It can't be leafed through. For an e-book a good table of contents is essential. For instance, I wanted to read The Raven. The only way I could find it was to use the Kindle's search feature, which returned a lot of matches, then to guess which of these matches might be the correct one.It is useable, but only to the extent a simple PDF file would be. That is, read it sequentially, rely extensively on the search feature, and hope for the best. But then, given the price, we shouldn't be too picky, should we?Update: It seems I was mistaken. While the actual table of contents (what you see when you press "Go To" on your Kindle) is indeed incomplete, there is also a hidden one, which appears to be complete. I stumbled upon it by chance. Instead of going to the beginning of the book (which takes you to the first tale), you must go to the cover, then turn the pages one by one, and you'll see it.

Nice Poe Collection
This book with everything inside is around eight hundred some pages and a very nice readable book. The text is not too small nor too large but then again some people may not like it in between but it was perfect for my eyes. There are a ton of stories in this book so get ready for a lot of reading. I have not read too many Poe stories or poems before but it was a lot simpler to understand than I thought. I haven't read Poe since high school about ten years ago so it was nice to go back as an adult to understand it better. The one problem I had with the book is the name of your current story you are reading is not at the top of the page and instead the name of the book is. It is a kind of annoying feature that since I don't bend pages or use bookmarks I have come to dislike. I know I read somewhere someones review with OCD could not stand it and I think I understand why. For some reason I keep looking at the top of the page and not seeing the name of the current story like a normal book. That is such a minor gripe compared to the rest of the book considering the vastness and greatness in the book I have come across. Some stories I didn't know were Poes that I had seen movies of but now I know which is great. Poe from what I remember lived a somewhat tragic existence but his poetry lives on and maybe if his life was different we wouldn't have his great works.

A Thrilling Collection
I was fortunate enough to pick this book up at amazon.com for a very modest price and so I couldn't pass it by, other than that, I barely know why I bought this book considering I am such a chicken. This excellent edition of Edgar Allan Poe's terrifying tales & poems is a must-have for E.A.P. fans and lovers of horror fiction. The image on the dust jacket is just wonderful (though it's not clearly visible in the image, so you'll have to take my word for it), though I really would have liked the inside to be illustrated as well. This huge collection (73 short stories and 48 poems) includes the author's most renowned works such as "The Raven", "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Murders in Rue Morgue" and "The Tell-Tale Heart". The book also includes a fantastic fourteen-page introduction by Wilbur S. Scott.I do not recommend this book for the faint-at-heart, but if you like suspense and (intelligent) horror, you simply cannot go wrong with this title!Hope this review helps =]GorJess

The quality of this volume is outstanding.
Well. Where do I start. The book is in excellent condition and even more beautiful than shown online. Pretty awesome for a used book! While the folio is lovely, I was pleasantly surprised to find the book itself is covered in a satin like material , which makes it all that much more of a treasure.I'm very happy with my purchase. Love!
