I've been an avid reader of the Atlas Obscura website for years, so when this was published bought it for my 6 year old - she loves it. The locations and details are inspiring and interesting, and the illustrations are really detailed and beautiful. An excellent purchase.

If you're looking for adventure, why not go big? This is a huge fantasy/adventure book that also happens to cover real, not imaginary, places.I may get to go with Mom and Dad on a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, but we probably won't be rappelling down the inside of an extinct volcano in Iceland. Or at least not soon. That's where this book comes in. 47 countries, all the continents, this is a buffet of possibilities. You can always dream big, and just knowing that these places actually exist is a treat.The tone of the book shifts around - sometimes it's more childish and sometimes it's more adult - but it's always pretty smart. There are no Dummies-style jokes and the patter never gets dopey. Some of the destinations are treated lightly and without much detail or context, but this is clearly meant to be a high energy survey, not a travel guide. There are some sidebars and lots of factoids, including odd but interesting bits about the various host countries, which adds further interest. The book is illustrated with drawings, which is colorful but not the same as having photos.So, this struck me as a great invitation for a young adventurer to dream, and then to further explore, (Google, Wikipedia, local library, MapQuest), whatever seemed most cool. Beautiful book!

Bought this quite a while ago for my kids to enjoy. Only recently noticed that a large number of pages are actually missing from the book! Too much time has now passed to exchange the item as I didn't realise I would need to check all pages were present before giving to my children! Very disappointing as not a cheap book! And we obviously bought the book for its contents! Poor show.

This was purchased as a gift and it was very well recieved. The images in this book are quite beautiful. I bought as a Christmas gift for my nephew but it was passed around by the whole family. Beautiful images and interesting places

This book is really a nice book. It is a very good one for any age. As an adult, I spent a few hours with it and was totally enthralled. It covers different countries as well as different states of the US. The facts are quite interesting and the illustrations are well done. One aspect I really liked and appreciated was that the places featured on the different pages were highlighted in color on a black and white globe. That was a really nice feature. Fun book with strong educational value!There was some mix-up about the embroidered patch that was featured in the pre-order offer. The badge arrived about a week later in a separate envelope. The badge is a high quality one and I am sure my grandson will love it as he wears it on a sweatshirt. Many thanks for offering the badge in the pre-order offer.********I ordered this book on August 15, 2018 for a nine year old grandson. The book looks like a book he will really like. However, when I purchased it, there was to be a badge that was to be included in the purchase. The book arrived today, 9/18, but there was no badge in the package nor in the book and no message about the badge. I would like to receive the badge that was advertised as being a part of the book purchase.

My kids love this book. I wish there were more photos along with the illustrations. We always end up googling to see what the places look like in real life. We are nearing the end of this book and the kids are hoping there is a part 2.
