Great books to learn about history
I read the American Revolution version with my 4th grade class during a historical fiction unit and found they enjoyed it so much I bought several more of the books for my class. During independent reading time they really enjoyed picking these to read. A modern update to the "Choose your own ending/adventure" I had as a kid but with lots of relevant information. I would say they are best for most 9-12 year old readers.

Big hit in 3rd grade classroom
This book was mentioned by a presenter at a state-wide reading conference. I used it my elementary classroom and students wrote a readers theater with this book.

Not Appropriate for Children
I purchased this book for my 9 year old niece since it was deemed age appropriate per the description. There isn't any gore, detailed descriptions of violence, or anything sexual but it is a VERY real book regarding living in this time. So I think it's age appropriate for 8 to 11 year olds IF you are okay with dark themes for your child. There's nothing false in the book (admittedly I didn't do all of the adventures but I did at least 5) but slavery is a dark theme and I'm not sure there's a good way to make it appropriate for children in a choose your own adventure format. Ultimately I did not give this book to my niece because she's still a kid and whether right or wrong we're still "protecting" her from some of the horrors of humanity. But I think if you want your children to be exposed to the truth of history I think this is a good book but I would definitely read it with them since I think it could be upsetting and result in a lot of questions.

My 8 year old ate this book up!!!!
This is a "choose your own adventure" book. My son learned a lot about slavery in America, and the horrors of being enslaved...in a book suited perfectly for the 7-11 year old child. I highly recommend. He has been through the book several times choosing different scenarios.

great choose your own path book
MY fifth graders love these choose your own path books. I read them aloud and then the whole class votes on what the character should do next. After we have finished a path they always beg to go back and read the alternative choice. It is a good way to have fun and learn history.

Four Stars
It's a fun read but I wish it carried the paths further.

Great set of books
Great set of books. My 8 year old son loves this one. He's one of the top readers in his school, but these are good for quick, informational reads for him.
