First impression...."meh"....
To be fair, I haven't even worn these for a day yet. This review is based off first impression. I am trying Alegrias after an incident with my Danskos that left me face down in a parking lot with a rolled ankle and skun knee. I ADORE my Danskos, but apparently, they do not always like me. There is no give in the heel, so if you step on a rock, your ankle will roll. Anyway, my Danskos will always be my favorite, but I keep them at school for my teaching job. I also work as a vet tech, which requires that I get up and down off the floor several times a day for procedures. Danskos have no bend, so they didn't do very well in that application either. Basically, Danskos are great if you are on a level surface and plan on standing or walking upright all day. I went back to my Saucony sneakers for clinic work, but began looking for something that would last a bit longer than 6 months. I bought these Alegrias because they were recommended by a student of mine and they appear to get good reviews. My first impression out of the box is that the leather appears thin and cheap, but this also makes them much lighter than a clog. My first order of business was to coat them in leather lotion, which seems to help a little. They are not anything cute to look at. I wear a 39 European, or 9 US, so they seem like boats to me. The sole seems like a plasticy material and they are sort of clunky when walking around (even more than my clogs!) The insert is removable and made of a cork material. I will wear them to school today to see how they hold up as far as comfort goes. There is a lot of toe room, which is great, but my heels seem to slide around a bit. Even in the clogs, I felt like I had more heel stability. I've tried shoes that fit like this on before, and they were from a K-Mart shelf. I would not have purchased these if I had been able to try them on before buying, but now that I've purchased them, I will keep them and see if they can change my mind.So basically, as you can tell, I am bitter that I can't safely wear my Dansko clogs anymore. I am willing to give these Alegrias a go and see how they hold up, but my first impresssion is a solid "meh." I will continue my search for a Dansko shoe that won't try to kill me.

Low arch, but stretches out nicely
I tried these on in a shoe store and had no issues, so I was really surprised to get them and find they were so tight in the arches they actually hurt - in trouser socks (so not thick woolly socks). I actually bought two pairs, one from the store and one from amazon, and as others have mentioned, I just picked up some shoe stretchers (looking for something that stretches the "vamp", it was ~US$25), stretched them, and now I have shoes I never want to take off. I walk for half my commute, stand on a bus, run around the office all day, and go on a "sanity stroll" at lunch - these support all of that. I mostly wear them with jeans, but khakis would be fine as well - they'd look odd or too casual with slacks. They're not as clean looking as a nice flat, so I'm not sure I'd call them "professional", but thankfully I work with pragmatic people who prefer function over form. One odd thing has happened - across the toe an odd crease has developed, along the center-line of the shoe (as opposed to across the shoe perpendicular to the toes, as one would expect a crease to form). It looks pretty odd and bumps against the tops of my toes when I stride a certain way. I don't know if that means these are knock-offs or factory seconds, my other pair (bought from a brick-and-mortar, verified re-seller) doesn't have anything like that, and those are my only two data points. If I'd paid full price, I'd be mad as hell as the crease developed after I wore them too much for a refund, but at less than half the retail price I just think of them as my weekend weirdos and move on with life. In future, since I need these relatively expensive shoes to just get through my day, I will likely just watch the sales rack of my local store rather than roll the dice online. But they're good shoes and the flaw doesn't get in my way.

Great shoes
I love these shoes. I used to waitress and these were great. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is because the sole was coming off shortly after getting them. I have purchased these shoes in the past with no problems.

Go a half size up if possible
I'm a nurse and I had a pair of shoes of the same brand before and I liked them so I decided to get another shoe but of a different style. I usually wear a 10 (40) but decided to go a half size up just incase I want to wear socks but the 10.5 (41) fits the same as the 10. And one foot fits comfortably but my pinky toe rubs in the other. They are really comfy when walking around in- as I expected and they are so beautiful. The soles are awesome. I really love them but I think the sizing needs rivision

very comfortable
I am working in the health care field both in food service and around the hospital so have to be on my feet sometimes for 8+ hours non-stop lifting and moving stuff or just standing for long periods. I tried Danskos but did not feel comfortable in them and constantly felt like I was going to roll my ankle (almost did a couple times turning a corner quickly). They also hurt my back because I am not used to being in a raised heel. I ordered these instead and they were instantly comfortable and felt less wobbly than the Danskos. I know a lot of people swear by Dankos but they did not work for me. These were great and super comfortable, they are a good width and have a nice amount of cushion.

Wide isn't wider, but regular is semiwide to start with
Not terrible shoes. The regular fit is wider than most shoes on the market which is really nice. However, I found them bitey and would never work for the small amount of walking I need to do at work. One major thing to note- I bought the regular and wide width and there was no difference in width between them in feel or in lining up the soles. If there is a difference I didn't notice. The wide may have been a hair shorter but that's all.
