Worth their weight in gold!
After a catastrophic flood turned half our home into a water park (thanks, broken toilet! ), we figured it was time to stop tempting fate and got a few of these units. And wow, are we glad we did! They’ve already saved us from what seems to be our ongoing battle against water. It detected a leak under the kitchen sink (seal gone bad), a dehumidifier that decided to hydrate the floor instead of the air, and an HVAC sump pump in the attic that apparently decided to take a break. I’m starting to think we’re just cursed when it comes to water. Should I invest in a boat next?I’m genuinely impressed by how long the battery lasts. Plus, the alarm is so loud that it could probably wake the neighbors...

Loud, functions well and has decent battery life
We have been purchasing these for a decade or so and they are certainly our favorite for water monitors. Compared to their competitors they are quite loud and a single battery lasts longer than you might expect. You do have to check them every so often to make sure the battery still functions as there is no battery life warning.

Meets a need but needs some work
The Zircon Leak Alert WiFi meets the need for a self-contained wireless water alert but needs improvement.First the Pros....A big plus for the Zircon is that it is all self-contained. You do not need a base station or any kind of additional wiring. It runs on a single CR123 lithium battery that is easy to replace. The setup, although different, is reasonably easy if you underst basic WiFi. To configure, you press a button that commands the box to create its own SSID. Find it on your phone and log in. You then tell the Zircon about your regular WiFi, select that SSID and enter the password. If you understand all that then you should not have trouble with the rest of the setup. One thing to make clear...It is possible to alert by email AND messaging using SMS. Perform an internet search on how to send an SMS message by email to your smartphone. It varies by carrier. It works great and you can get an alert immediately. Make sure you use SMS to send the email to your phone. Now to the cons...It uses up batteries much faster than a non-wifi model. Buy the CR123s in bulk because you will change often, about every 3 or 4 months. Short battery life is the price you pay for having such a small box that floats. A serious flaw is that the battery 'End-Of-Life' message is iffy at best. Occasionally it will message you about a spent battery but this is rare; Almost never. Zircon, this is a big deal that needs to be addressed. The Zircon does send out a regular health report every SIX DAYS, not weekly. You read that right, every SIX DAYS. What were you thinking? Did you run out of RAM or something? Therefore, to make sure it is still working you must check for a message or email every six days. It only goes online when it alarms or checks in. You cannot ping to check for signs of life.If you have only one Zircon then this might be relatively easy. We own six so have to keep a running checklist on last check-ins. Consider changing out the battery every 90 days on principle.Another con is shorter WiFi range than other devices. A small box placed on a concrete slab limits range. It is what it is.In summary, I hope that Zircon keeps selling these WiFi alerts. We have six. Some under sinks, by a water heater, by a sump pump. They have saved us from rotting wood and a flooded basement. They are a pain to monitor but worth it to us. And Zircon, please fix the spent battery alert. I get it, a lithium change of state voltage drop is not easy to detect, but smoke alarm makers seem to have figured it out. And a six day status schedule? Make it seven.

Peace of mind
Water can do some damage! Stop it before it gets outta control. These work great and already saved my kitchen floor!!!! My dishwasher started leaking, small leak so wouldnt have noticed before it already saturated my wood floor. A must for any home buyer

Easy to use, highly visible flashing light too.
Loud. Easy to install. Terrific visibility from a distance. No wires or cords, just a simple floor sensor.

Very reliable, very loud
Sends out a VERY loud beeping signal with the slightest moisture. (dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot, which is "S.O.S." in Morse Code) Bought a six pack, they already paid for themselves. These are far superior to the disposable cone-shaped ones that have a non-replaceable battery, are not very loud and have a constant whine instead of an attention-getting beep.

After many years, mixed results, and shelf life concerns. I switched
I’ve had 7 of these leak detectors active for many years and several have saved my bacon on a few occasions when I’ve had small leaks inside sink cabinetry, which otherwise would have gone undetected and possibly could have created serious damage to my home. You may ask then, why only 3 stars?Over the past year, three of these devices stopped sending weekly status emails; which is their lifeblood. I can’t explain it, particularly because when I changed the battery, I would get an email indicating the battery was 100%. After that, there no communication whatsoever to the two designated email recipients. All three detectors had the exact same symptoms. That’s a frightening thought if you’re depending on those detectors to email you in the event of a leak!! As a result, I had to create a weekly checklist to make sure that each of these was functioning properly and also note their battery status. Frankly, that turned out to be a cumbersome exercise and not a great use of my time IMO. It also should be noted that these units are not particularly a bargain, and those expenses can add up, especially if you’re replacing malfunctioning units. One additional thing that bothers me about the product: there isn’t a central app where you can log in and see all your devices. Instead I had to set up a separate leak detector email inbox, so when the weekly status reports came in (if they did), I would manually move the emails over to the mailbox for later viewing. In this day and age, does that seem just a wee bit archaic to you? It does to me too. Thinking it over, before I recently had to replace the defective units, my guess is I’ve had these for at least 7 or 8 years, probably more, and nothing has changed with the Zircon UI during that time period. Based on my overall experience, I’d have to say that’s an error on the company’s part.Ultimately I wound up switching to X-Sense water detectors. Much less expensive, a killer app, all detectors can be easily monitored at a glance, and significantly easier to set up and operate.

Nice and loud
I tested this alarm prior to putting it downstairs: was very loud and only took a drop of water. It would be nice if insurance companies accepted this as a water alarm (they do not) but at least I have peace of mind if I have a leak in the middle of the night.
