Methylene blue is indeed considered a drug that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of various medical conditions such as methemoglobinemia and urinary tract infections. It is also often used for diagnostics in various surgical procedures.

Will this stain my mouth or teeth? How much dilution to prevent staining?

MB 1% solution is as staining as blue ink for an ink jet printer, so yes it will stain teeth, countertops, or your carpet (which happened today for us.) However, you can avoid staining your teeth and tongue by purchasing size 00 acid resistant veggie capsules, sold here on Amazon. Regular size 00 veggie capsules also work, but the AR capsules are thicker, and are white, not clear. You put 8-11 drops in the longer half of the capsule, then push on the smaller half. Even AR capsules get soft when filled with MB (or even water, which you can practice with), so be sure to fill your veggie cap over a sink (preferably stainless steel), or outside, just as you would if using ink. Swallow the capsules and wash it down with water or your favorite beverage. I use this method myself. Limeade diluted with water can also be used if you just want to add drops to a beverage. It hides the taste and is high in Vitamin C.
