Confusing User Interface
One hardware problem was with the microphone; it kept coming loose and disconnecting from the radio. The only way to correct this was to jiggle the mic plug until the mic keypad lit. Additionally, in my 57 years as a ham radio operator, I have never experienced such an unintuitive user interface. The control sequence for settings so convoluted, I was constantly referring to manual for help. Nothing like Alinco which actually names the function of each key. You will need to keep a key function cheat sheet handy.

Good quality for the price
Bought the 220mhz version of this radio and initial impression is that it is decent quality for the price. There aren’t that many new 220 mobile radios on the market to choose from, but this one works well. Build quality is good and comes with a programming cable and the radio is compatible with Chirp. Has all the common features needed for repeater usage and scanning, being able to change the lcd backlight color and brightness is a plus (the default blue is hard on the eyes, but the orange is great). The audio driver is a bit noisy when pressing buttons or turning the radio off and on, and when the squelch breaks. However, when used in a car, not as noticeable. However, I didn’t experience the squeal or other audio artifacts others might have with prior versions of this model. For the price, build quality, and features, I would recommend this radio.

Very nice radio
Nice radio, good value. Owners manual almost worthless.

Seems like a solid radio
I originally liked this radio but it only lasted 2 years and then the display locked up gibberish. This is a fairly common problem with the TYT TH-9000D. I bought another one which is still running but I am not confident about it's longevity. Who knows....?? You may get a good one but I won't take the risk again.

TYT 9000d Rocks!
Been running the TYT 9000D 220 for several weeks. Verry happy with the radio. Took a little time to figure out programming. After understanding programming logic, radio works great!
