Great book from a legend
This is a great book to learn about the history, principles, and techniques of Small Circle Jujitsu. The true gold can be found in the principles that Professor Jay first developed with competitive judo and later adapted to Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. "Pain makes believers."

Good book
The book is great. The explanations I think could be more in depth. The pics are the old black and white and a lot of space is wasted on the pages. They definitely needed to have close ups of the techniques instead of far away shots. The pics are the downside to this book. It is too bad that they did not take this into account when publishing it. Aside from that one can still learn from it. Some of the techniques I question as to practicality but overall they are good.

Small-Circle Jujitsu by Wally Jay is a great book
If you are interested in a short history of Wally Jay's Small-Circle Jujitsu, followed by a load of information on holds, joint locks and self defence against punches, pushes and holds then this is the book for you. I have to admit a degree of bias because of my background in Kyusho Jitsu and the influence that Wally Jay had on the development of 2-way-action in Kyusho Jitsu.Even though the book was written a while ago the principles are still current. A martial artist will find a load of applications in this book.

Great book on Jujutsu
This book is more useful as training reference for a Small-Circle Jujitsu practioner as while the principle of the small circle is quite interesting and so is Wally Jay's history the book really doesn't cover many principals of grappling in depth. The best books to get to understand the grappling arts is The Canon of Judo: Classic Teachings on Principles and Techniques and Total Aikido: The Master Course (Bushido--The Way of the Warrior) as these books go into the details and strategy of grappling arts where as this book is more for advanced practioners.

super book
Just got this book today, and I'm very happy . It is chocked full of techniques and good pictures. I finished level 9 of Modern Arnis that was mostly Wally Jays finger locks, wrist locks, throws and limb destruction. Wally Jay has a treasure trove of wicked moves that are in this book. These techniques work for control, or destruction. There are also some moves here that kids can learn against bullies.

buy it with the DVD series
This book is excellent as a companion to the DVD series. Short and to the point in the text and plenty of technical demonstration pictures. I generally would not recommend such a book, but with the DVD series as a companion, it makes a lot of sense and its a quick reference to have in the Dojo. Recommended for those interested in Jujitsu and Judo. Remember that many of these techniques are illegal in sports competitions.

Great book
Compared to other books on jujitsu the photos and description of how to do the technique are well presented.

Small circle jujitsu by Wally Jay
To be clear this book is written by the legendary now sadly deceased Wally Jay, if you are serious about traditional jujitsu then you should read and own this book. Covers the common jujitsu techniques however what separates this is the application of Wally Jay's small circle theory, deceptively simple yet effective, application of the theory can make a big difference to your jujitsu. I would recommend this book to either advanced or those who enjoy reading into the art and theory of martial arts, ideally you need to understand the basics well before trying to apply small circle theory.

An excellent read. Used this augment knowledge on standing chokes ...
An excellent read. Used this augment knowledge on standing chokes and strangles. Some of the techniques are unpractical in street environment - others pure genius for their simplicity. A Good explanation and pictures to reference techniques. This book will add another dimension to self defence training in that it works in the meta-state between target standing and pure groundfighting. Only drawbacks are that the presentation is quite 'loud' and relies on pictures to explain the moves. Could do with text too explain at what points the 'small circle' extensions are applied
