Very useful and effective for its size
Works equally well with an Olympus WS853 and equally so with an older Sony ICD audio recorder. It is worth saying it does need an audio recorder to provide between 2 and 10 volts DC to the microphone's plug tip - This feature is known known as 'plug in power' and is found on many portable audio / interview/ conference/ dictating machine type recorders. Check your user guide if unsure. In the WS853 user guide it says "Microphones with plug-in power supplies can be used". On the Sony ICD it says "When a plug in power type microphone is connected, power is automatically supplied to the microphone from the IC recorder. So all is well thereThe ME34 mic recording is hugely clearer than internal microphones when close up.With the microphone pointed towards a distant speaker with closer nearby background noise it does somewhat better than Olympus or Sony internal microphones managed. It makes the recording more intelligible but obviously the 4m distance 'next room' test is pretty tough.I put a little recording together to demonstrate this in an echo filled kitchen setting with other speech nearby to the side, above and rear. The test used maximum recording sensitivity and with low frequency filters and other such settings off in each case. This recording was on the SONY ICD but results on the Olympus were similar. I used the Sony for the video file to show it works for either brand as you would guess it works ok for Olympus recorders.

Perfect for University Lectures
I got this microphone for University, I found myself unable to keep pace with the lecturer at times and missing out parts of the lecture. This handy microphone combined with an Olympus dictaphone solved that problem once and for all. I was finally able to go through the lectures at home in my own pace, not only that the combination flow effortlessly into Dragon Speaking, so it actually wrote my notes up for me!!I am sure there must be hundreds of different uses for this microphone, however for my purposes it was perfect!

Slightly irking to set up but WORTH IT! A great little mic.
This is a great mic! It was a little annoying to set up as I expected it to come with software to change settings but once I did work out how to set it up it works perfectly. I suspect it was only annoying for me as I have never had to find recording device settings on my computer before this! I got it for recording videos for youtube. Its not as good as the big bad mics out there true but for the price and ease it is great.

It is perfect for recording lectures or any other stationary recording
I bought this Microphone together with the Olympus DM-670 voice recorder. It is very sensitive and picks up even quite language without creating any background buzzing or humming. It is perfect for recording lectures or any other stationary recording, as it prevents handling while recording which would happen if one was to touch/ move/ hold the recorder without the microphone. Moving the microphone without creating noise in the recording is possible by just carefully holding it on the stand. Very good item, would definitely recommend!
