With no software to upload and minimal set-up, the EyeClops can be put to use almost instantly. The hand-held magnification "eye" is fun to hold and makes it easy for your child to explore their world. Viewing the magnified images on your TV screen in full, vivid color encourages your child to take learning into their own hands and provides numerous opportunities for parents and children to play fun and educational games together. And because the EyeClops is powered by five AA batteries, your child can enjoy several uninterrupted hours of exploration without the need for recharging or replacement. Although the EyeClops is extremely easy to set up, it does take a little practice to make things come into focus. However, with the aid of the simple focusing gauge on the I.R.I.S. lens that surrounds the magnifying lens, this initial awkwardness is quickly overcome. On the lowest setting the LEDs occasionally proved to be too bright for viewing lighter-colored objects, and these images could not be seen clearly on the TV screen. On the higher magnification settings, however, this did not seem to be a problem and textures and colors came through flawlessly. What's in the Box EyeClops Bionic Eye and Brain Case, I.R.I.S. lens attachment, viewing dish and tube, and base. fun and educational
I purchased this for my 9 year old disabled son for Christmas...he really likes it, within minutes of opening the box he was scanning everything within a few feet of the TV. On the plus side its usable for older children, and has positive educational value. On the negative side, the cord prevents random experimentation, as everything must be viewable within feet of the TV screen the Eyeclops is connected to. In addition, its quite challenging for younger users to get the viewfinder to a good usable position to be able to adequately view the items they are looking at...overall, though, its fun, seems to be well made, offers lots of study opportunities...

Zoom In for Fun!
This was the favorite toy at our place this Christmas. It was purchased for a 6YO cousin, but all the kids (and adults!) were clamoring over it. It was so easy to use - take it out of the box, fill it with batteries and plug it into the TV!It does take 5 AA batteries. Fortunately, we had them ready. It worked fine with rechargeables. We tried it on 3 different TVs and had good results with all three. I was prepared for it to be difficult to focus, but it worked great for us. Just be a little patient with it and you'll get some great results. The pictures on the TV were very sharp. There are 3 levels of magnification - 100x, 200x, and 400x. It's not like a microscope where you have fine tuning, but you can adjust the distance at which you hold it slightly. This is a very cool toy. I may buy one for us too!

Long lasting fun
This is a very educational toy and my kids love it! I gave it to my 10 yr. old son for Christmas, but everyone has had fun with it, even Grandma. We have spent hours in front of the T.V. looking at things with this. My son was amazed at what his skin really looks like. He must find something to look at with it at least once a day.Our only disappointment is that the image quality is not as good as what is shown on the box and advertising.I would highly recommend this toy.

Image not clear enough, kids get tired soon
I bought this product based on the reviews. Either I got a deffective product (it doesn't seem to be the case) or the reviewiers have set the bar very low for quality. The problem is that the image quality is very poor. We see a sort of permanent "ghost image" of what looks like electronic circuitry, in a tone of red. Most of the stuff we looked at (ants, grains of sand, etc) appear very dark, and you can't make out the details. Looking at your skin produces the same results, you don't really see much but a bunch of shadows and vague forms. The poor quality does not motivate kids to use it; after a couple tries my kid gave up on the device. So did I.The only thing it did well was magnify small print in labels. The enclosed treasure-hunt map has very small print with clues to be followed; you can't see them with the naked eye, but the device shows them clearly.I do not recommend this.

Impressive fun and educational toy!
We got this for my daughter as a Christmas gift. She, my wife, and I all LOVE it. We looked at everything within reach of the cable's length with this Bionic Eye. What we couldn't reach, we brought to it! It's simply impressive. Just a few things we looked at- carpet, socks, dog hair, human hair, skin, salt, pepper, sugar...We leave the zoom feature on 100 because we can't really see very clearly with the stronger settings. I don't think it's a defect, I just don't think we've figured it out yet. The plastic piece that rotates for the focus feature seems a little flimsy, but it has held up just fine so far.Highly recommended toy and tool. It will amaze and teach you and your child.

Fun and educational
We have had loads of fun with our Eyeclops. It is a nice addition to our classroom. The kids enjoy looking at all sorts of specimens from leaves and bugs to crystals. All that's needed it an old TV and a steady hand to hold the Eyeclops in focus. It does take a little effort to hold it at just the right angle to focus, but with a little practice a 5 or 6 year old can handle it well. It is interesting enough even for older children, though it's designed with younger kids in mind. Its made from hard plastic and can handle the inevitable drops and oopsies involved with using it with children.

We'll see if the replacement I ordered works.
My 5 year old was so excited to plug this in to start to see things. It was really neat at first. The 400 zoom doesn't work so well (it was hard to get things into focus). But that said, we didn't work at trying it very hard, as within the first 10 minutes, it quit working. I thought it was weird that the batteries didn't last very long, so we put in new batteries. Only that apperantly wasn't what the problem was. It just no longer had power of any kind. Amazon Customer service was very helpful though, and issued me a refund and a mailing label so I can return the defective one. My daughter still wants it, so I am ordering a new one and hopefully it will work. (I am not holding my breath- although when we had it working it was very cool).

Well made, but beware little kids losing various parts
This was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed hooking it up to a screen - but it had a couple of little parts that eventually got lost, and once they're lost its functionality is quite diminished. But I recommend it and give it four stars. Kids love to look at bugs and other things close up, and this is a nice, reasonably priced way for them to do so. A very good educational toy.
