Great grip in wet conditions, too much heel movement
I hike 10-12 miles of wooded trails each week. In warm and dry weather, an old pair of New Balance sneakers has done the job quite well. But with fall setting in and winter to come, I needed something with more grip and ideally, waterproof. The tread on these tires β ahem, shoes β is great for damp and wet soil, gravel, etc. Small to medium size tree roots don't pose much of a problem. Walking on asphalt feels a bit like wearing cleats, and will likely wear them down quickly, so don't do that. Stick to grass, dirt, mud, and snow with these. While they're a bit stiff out of the box, after a few miles they seem to have loosened up some.Unfortunately, some of the other reviews listing drawbacks are pretty accurate. I am a solid size 12 and with the provided insole (a thin liner), these allow for a little bit of toe movement and a lot of heel movement. Seems like they run a half size too big in these places. Remember those old New Balance sneakers I mentioned? No problems whatsoever, hiking hundreds of miles this year. My first 3.5 mile short hike in these left both my big toes sore on the insides, and I ended up with a one inch blister on the inside of my left heel! I will definitely be putting my preferred sport orthotic insoles in these to use up some of the extra space, and wearing thicker socks as well. All in all: this is a very well made, stylish shoe with a great tread pattern and excellent water resistance, but you might need to jump through some hoops to avoid rubbing, especially in the heel area.

Not what they used to be.
These Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX shoes are great! The waterproofing works amazing, the grip is awesome. I use these shoes everyday. I've had some form of Adidas Terrex shoes for years. In the past 10 years or so I usually go through a pair of the Swift R3's every 9 - 12 months. That was acceptable for me as I tend to be hard on my hiking shoes and I would wear these almost daily. But the last pair I received didn't even last 6 months. I thought it was a one off. But now I've ordered another pair and in less than a month I started noticing the shoes coming apart in the same way as my previous pair. It starts around the toe box where the rubber molding meets the mesh. It starts to separate which also then makes the shoes not water proof anymore. Unfortunately it seems that Adidas has changed something in manufacturing the shoe resulting in poor quality. It seems like I am going to have to move on to another shoe and company.

Great shoes for Disc Golf
Just played a round of disc golf in 3 inches of snow and my feet were completely dry. My playing partner had waterproof hiking boots on and his feet were cold and getting wet. Are these the most comfortable shoes, no, but I think in time they will get better, and they really aren't as bad as some of the other reviews say they are. I wonder if they ordered the wrong size because I will say, YOU NEED TO ORDER A SIZE UP, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE WIDE FEET LIKE I DO!!!I can imagine that these would not be comfortable to run in, but hiking up and down hills while disc golfing was fine. Also I must say THE TRACTION IS AMAZING!!!!!! I highly recommend these for disc golf, 5 stars, but the reason I did 4 was because from an overall standpoint, they aren't a perfect shoe, it really depends on the activity you plan on using them with.

Really stiff at first
Ordered these as replacement for my old swift gore-tex shoes. These are really really stiff at first but break in nicely. I didn't like that Adidas did away with the old model and didn't keep the speed lace design with these. I wear these at work working on boats and love the speed lace for when I am rigging new boats so I can slip in and out of these since I don't wear shoes in the new boats to avoid leaving any marks on the carpet. I have bought some speed laces since buying these and I'm pretty satisfied now that the shoes are worn in a little. Adidas should have left a great design alone though!

These shoes are great!
I have the trail runners which are great too, but not as supportive by design. These are a little stiffer, again by design, but broke in easily and are perfect. Nice grip on rock inclines and super comfy. Definitely recommend!
