This seat will not fit a Tempest 170. Compatible with the following Wilderness Systems models: • Tsunami - 2013 or later (excluding Tsunami SP) • Zephyr - 2013 or later

Q: Will this fit an older Tempest165? If not, what would you recommend?

It will fit a Wilderness Systems Phase 3 seat. I installed it in my 2014 Tsunami 175 replacing the backband because of lower back issues. It will fit and Wilderness Systems kayak with a Phase 3 seat. Be aware the instructions are a little sketchy but you will have no trouble once you reason out the seat adjustment. It also makes the cockpit a few inches shorter. Made a difference for me as I am 6'3 235... took a few trips to adjust getting in and out of my boat.

Q: I got this seatback today and assembled it. the bungies pull the back to the top of the riser. if i wanted to adjust it to halfway, how do i lock it?

If you put it together right, the pull cord between your legs under the seat should be able to get pulled and lower or raise the seat to the desired height.

Q: Will this seatfold flat to alow the cockpit cover to go on

Yes. The seatback will fold down far enough to allow a cockpit cover to be installed.
