I'm building a spring box system, and holding 275 gallon distribution tank on my property up on the hill along with a ram pump to get water to my cabin 300 yards below. So I decided to buy these inside/outside threaded bulkhead fittings (which are designed for aquarium's), to adapt to a large modified 24 gallon Rubbermaid tote. The fittings are durable plastic and are three piece design, being the large threaded nipple which has inside and outside threads, a rubber washer and a large plastic six sided nut.. These bulkhead fittings come in a variety of combinations, slip/slip, thread/thread, and thread/slip. For me I wanted thread/thread meaning the inside of the nipple is threaded as well as the outside. The thread size accommodates schedule 40 fittings threads, in my case 1" thread. They also will allow the use of the black, or grey PVC fittings. When I bought these on Amazon in February 2014 the price on these fittings were like $5.25 with free shipping if total purchase was over $25.This was called an "add on" purchase, meaning you could buy other items for $25 and then buy these and the shipping was free. I'm a "Prime" customer but it still required the $25 purchase. Still was a great deal compared to the big box orange, and blue/grey stores. Their prices were all of $15 or more per piece. The only difference was the big box stores bulkhead fittings were not for aquariums and were commercial grade. If I had a large expensive boat and I had to make a choice between the two I would opt for the more expensive store item, but for my job these were perfect. The only real major difference between the two was that the store ones were a little larger in mass and had two rubber washers. This unit has one rubber washer which goes on the water storage side of box. If properly installed why would you need another rubber washer on the outside anyway. My spring box is completed with three fittings, piping, inlet, outlet and overflow, tested and installed and running perfectly. Pros: Great value at $5.25 each Cons: Not a deal breaker but this fitting only comes with one rubber washer. For an aquarium two would be nice to prevent water from going on floor should first inside rubber washer fail. GREAT deal buy these....I bought 5 at a time to get the free shipping

My husband searched all over our city for this piece, but alas....there were none to be found! So, onto Amazon and making Jeff Bezos more money, but he needed it desperately to fix the water tank that his stupid coworker had busted! When the piece was broken off, his coworker sat and plugged the hole with his hand! IDIOT!!!!! My husband told him to drain the stupid water, because you cant sit back there with it while we're driving back to the shop! Now....the idiot coworker doesn't have to plug the hole....this amazing piece of engineering has solved their problem!! Thank you, Lifegard Aquatics, for saving the day!!

We had just put up 3 wheelchair accessible gardens in McKinley park in Fraser, Michigan and needed drains for them to be sandwiched in-between the moisture barrier and the plywood. These fit perfect and even though we are not using the inside thread, you can thread a guided drain if needed. For our purpose as long as it drains toward the back so it does not drip on the user, we are good as is. The gasket is great but since we have the vapor barrier it has a double seal. We have had very hard rains and the underside has stayed completely dry so we are good to go. The last touch will be some type of screen to keep the dirt from migrating out and we will be in business. The only downside was two of them had burrs in the threads that I had to use my knife to clean up so the nut would start back on. I'm in the plastics industry so I understand this can happen on older mold tools. A little maintenance and they will be good agian. Very happy with them.

Product arrived as expected and performed as expected. All three pieces of the assembly were present and nothing was damaged or showed defects. (Proper installation requires the rubber seal to be between the flange of the largest piece and the item being installed onto, and the nut threaded against the opposite wall of the item being installed onto.) Four of these were purchased for an Aqueon 210 glass aquarium with built-in overflows. The predrilled hole size in the glass is 1 3/4" (1.75). These bulkheads were chosen because they have internal threads versus the slip fitting option. This will allow for disassembly later on instead of using solvent to join the pieces which becomes a permanent bond. Three bulkheads are being used as drains and the fourth is being used for return. The return line is the only one currently with anything threaded into the flange side of the piece. Care must be used when tightening the mating pieces to the internal threads of the bottom, tightening of the internal thread will want to unscrew the thread of the nut against the bulkhead. For my application, once the aquarium was on the stand, the access to the nut was so restricted I could only get a finger tight seal. (In hindsight, a 3" hole saw was used for the stand, and a 4" hole saw would have cost a bit more but alleviated frustration.) I used Banjo NIP100-4 Polypropylene Pipe Fitting, Nipple, Schedule 80, 1" NPT Male x 4" Length (4" extensions) downstream of the bulkhead before installing a ball valve similar to Valterra 700-10F PVC Ball Valve, White, 1" FPT . It may be overkill, but I also use teflon tape ( Apache 99000322 1/2" x 275' Spool of Teflon Thread Seal Tape ) for all threaded joints.
