FOLDING, STURDY and PERFECT!
Love this for camping - especially as so convenient to fold and box away when done. We use the cooking grills, too, for kabobs. Very quick to get charcoals going. Easy to use. Easy to wash off and pack away with little space needed to store it. Great design!

Great single person BBQ.
Used my new Collapsible Camping Grill and Chimney Starter over Labor Day week while at June Lake, CA and it worked great with some caveats. I used it four times as a single person grill so cannot speak to cramming it full of charcoal to work as a larger BBQ coal starter. Most I filled it with were coals about two layers deep. For single person it worked great as seen in the photo. I am going to work out a way to have the coals sit one level higher up to make for better roasting (i.e., find a small oven cooling rack etc. and cut it down to fit the higher up dimension and then sit on some cross piece rods).

Works well. Sprays small cinders when pouring into grill.
I've used this both as a charcoal chimney and as a grill and it worked well for both applications. If you use this as a grill, you need to put something fireproof under it to contain the ashes or you'll have a mess. That is one minor drawback. The other is that it has a tendency to spray out small, hot cinders when pouring the charcoal into a grill. I noticed it does that more than the other charcoal chimney's I've owned in the past. Not sure if it's because this is larger or because of the shape. For those two reasons, I took off a star, but it seems sturdy and it's been sitting out on my deck under a small overhang for over a month and is not rusting.

Great for the price, but can be better
It does its job, even in rain, as a chimney starter. And it colds quickly, so you can store it away from element soon after use to avoid rust.As a small grill, it is decently sized. and works alright. But here is some down side to be aware of.When you use it as a grill, I would assume you are not using it on top of a grill. So I would advise you to fine something to elevate it while it in use, and find something as an ash tray as the bottom grill that holds the charcoals are not fine mashed, so burning charcoals will fall down to the bottom surface when it reduced in size.Overall, it is worth the price (less than 20 when I bought it). But It would be handy to have a carrying/storage poach of some kind. I am willing to pay few more dollars for it, as the stove has many sharp corners and moving/lose parts, and is somewhat hard to store without a poach.

Works great!
I love this chimney/grill! It’s packable, not too heavy. It cooks good enough for what I intended it to do for my needs. There are holes around the body, which means more airflow. So if you do use it as a backpack grill; you should only cook things that don’t need a long amount of time to cook. There’s a lot of heat produced so cook fast and keep an eye on your food so you don’t burn it. Overall I’m more than happy with this product!!

Sturdy, easy, performs well, great price, quick delivery.
Wow! This product is all that I wanted, plus a little bit more. I love to camp and use my cast iron dutch oven, but I have a Corolla, so packing space is very limited. I don't have space for one of those huge round Charcoal Starters, so I've been looking for a collapsible version ever since I saw one being used a few years ago. (Even if I had a huge trailer or RV, I'd still prefer items that use a minimum of space and have multiple uses.) This one beats all of the competition! It folds completely flat (including the handle, which is very comfortable btw), it's easy to open and put the grates in place, it has great airflow, AND you can actually do some cooking with it (with a small skillet or pot and judicious adjusting of the amount of charcoal). The locking guide above the handle makes it very easy to lift and tip over, and pour the charcoals right where you want them to go, and the 90-degree corner does make it easier to aim the charcoal, versus trying to do that with a round starter. I chose this one over a competitor that comes with a carry bag, because 1) the quality of the Outset is obviously better, 2) the competitor's handle doesn't fold at all, 3) the Outset has an additional built-in use, which is actual cooking!

This has a coating that will need to be burned off.
Their original was better. It was raw steel, no coating. But I guess I'll keep it because I can't find another one that folds and has grills

Great little set up
Pretty good little set up. I have used as a charcoal chimney and a small portable grill. I like this and use it often when out camping. I can cook (3) 1/3 pound burgers on it at once. I put it in the fire pits at the established campgrounds and doing so helps with heat control as it does not have a lid. It folds down to save space and has several functions which is awesome for campers as space and weight are limited. Highly recommended
