Academy R.M.S. Titanic Model Kit, Centenary Edition

This is an excellent model of the R.M.S. Titanic. The scale is not too big but not too small, looks nice in a display case. This edition comes with laser-cut wood decks and also brass photo-etched parts. The model requires an expert skill level as some trimming of the original parts is required to replace it with the photo-etched parts and the wood decks.PROS:* Nice size* Good detail* Photo-etched parts for better detail* laser cut wood decksCONS:* Difficult for beginners* Very expensive* Some of the kit details are inaccurate* Some large parts are poor fitting* completed kit is rather fragile

To begin with, this most certainly NOT a toy, it's a model kit that holds the distinction of being the most accurate TITANIC model ever produced, and it most certainly is for experienced modelers. I repeat; EXPERIENCED modelers, as even those with a fair number of builds to their credit will most certainly find this kit a challenge.The biggest difference between this kit and previous TITANIC models is the inclusion of wood veneers for the decks. Their use is optional, but for me were the main selling point of this kit. To use them, you'll need to trim away existing deck detail, lay the veneers, and replace the trimmed detail with photo-etch parts. Please note that on a kit this scale, these amount to some very, very tiny parts! To make things a BIT easier, the parts come molded in a variety of colors, however, if you're a stickler for detail that won't mean much, especially if you're not fond of the orange color of the funnels (the actual color is known as White Star Line buff- look it up).All in all, the kit is everything it should be, and the patient builder will be rewarded with an amazing scaled replica!

I usually purchase wooden kits, but as it's an important year for the Titanic I thought I would have a go at a limited edition model. So far I have found this model a pleasant challenge.

It is the best titanic model I have had so far and I am really happy parts of it are already painted it makes it a lot easier
