The significant other and her friends have debated using derma-rollers to boost skin collagen, improve appearance and enhance absorption of creams, lotions (primarily for facial treatments). That discussion eventually evolved to use of micro-needling processes, which they've seen at spas and dermatology clinics. One or more of her friends has had the micro-needle process done by a technician (at a spa or clinic, I'm not certain which, or if both). And, they swear by it, claiming that it works wonders.Of course, I do tell her that she looks great, beautiful already. But, she just scoffs at my compliments and says it's all well and good, but that I don't understand. She says she's doing her best to stay young and look good. She compares it to my vast health and longevity/anti-aging supplements that I take daily. She mentioned that I still continue researching, and taking new supplements in the pursuit of health and youth/fighting off aging. And, she's absolutely right.It seems that topical application of lotions, creams, etc, have limited absorption, thus limited efficacy. Derma-rollers boost the possible absorption. Micro-needling increases that even further, with better precision and increased coverage. Plus, it's a more sanitary, hygienic method. The user needs to clean, and thoroughly sanitize the derma-roller, and carefully store it. A micro-needling device uses a disposable cartridge that is disposed after treatment. Next treatment uses a brand new, sterile cartridge.Another advantage is this product can adjust the penetrating depth of the needles. The design form is akin to a pen, with similar attending ergonomics. Thus, it's easy to handle and maneuver, allowing vertical conveyance of needle application (versus the angled approach with derma-rollers, which are rollers with needles attached to the cylinders). The combination of needle size, penetration depth, and speed of delivery makes the process practically painless, and less intrusive. In fact, recovery time is considerably shorter.There is some confusion in the product details concerning the speeds. This device does contain 5 available speeds. In fact, I show proof of this in the attached photos, with images of the display noting speeds 1, 4 and 5 (yes, there are speeds 2 and 3, I just neglected to take those pictures, hehe).They only provide three cartrridges (Nano, 12 pin and 36 pin). So, you will need extra cartridges, especially if you opt to use a cartridge to test your skin reaction to the process. A ten pack from this company will cost $24, with other brands priced around the $20 mark.This micro-needling pen performs well, meeting expectations. It's designed well, with quality materials (metal body) and manufacture. Controls operate smoothly and without issue. If you are considering home/DIY micro-needling skin treatments, this is worthy of serious consideration. I suggest taking a slow, patient approach, research and watch online videos on process/application, and ensure that you exercise sanitary, hygienic conditions when performing the treatment. Also, if you're squeamish or have very sensitive skin, think about purchasing topical lidocane to numb the skin before treatment.Overall, this is a very credible and capable device. It would get a more favorable nod if they included more than just 3 cartridges, which I feel is insufficient for any user, especially a beginner. Closeups of features and accessories are included.Based on the quality of design and build, ease of operation and the functions/performance, it garners a 4.5+ star rating.

This particular micro needling pen is great for someone who wants to determine whether micro needling is effective before investing in more blades - it's a great starter kit. It comes with 3 blades which should be used only once before discarding. The needles themselves are well protected and sterile, so I wasn't worried in the least about getting poked or disposing of them incorrectly. There was a decent charge in the pen, so I was able to get started right away and I used an aloe vera gel on my face to avoid any irritation on my sensitive skin.I have heard that this pen can offer a salon-type experience compared to the roller types, so I am hoping for salon-type results at a cheaper rate, and at my convenience, too. So far, I haven't had any irritation and my skin is looking slightly better already. I love the opportunity to try this product out before buying more blades. This is a great pen and so easy to use - do your research and you might just want to invest in the same pen but one that comes with more blades, as I'm sure you'll be pleased with your results.
