These boots are more than twice the price of any footwear I have ever bought in my life. So out of the box I was very cautious - they had to be perfect in every way or they’d be going back. That first evening the fit was good but when I pulled the laces tight one particular pair of lugs pressed painfully into each side of my foot. Boots rejected! In the morning, I tried again with a looser lace arrangement so the back of the lugs no longer pressed. I realised these boots do not have side panels like my DMs that nearly meet in the middle when laced. With these, there is a lot of lace on show. I wore them for an hour around the house. They felt good. Keepers!First outing was a wet weekend of hiking in Galloway. The boots were incredible - I never once slipped on mud, hill climbs or slick pine needles, my feet stayed utterly dry, not a single niggle to my feet. Just enough space for my toes to wiggle and feel free. And afterwards my feet felt ache-free. It is hard not to wear them every day, all the time. I love them. Even the ‘medieval reenactment’ style is attractive to me.I wore one pair of thickish socks and also two pairs of medium socks. Both worked well. But I still felt my feet a bit chilly (that could just be me). I may consider getting the thermal insoles.I know there is a special ‘balm’ for these boots. But we had dubbin the house and I used that. Didn’t change the look of the boots but definitely stopped any water penetration. My best boots ever.Hopefully they will see me out.

Expensive with cheap lace grips
Comfy BUT after 7 months lace grip at ankle sheared off. Only worn about 10 times . Hmmph! If seller would like to replace that would seem only fair.

Good in parts...
Summary:What’s good? Good quality leather and waterproof. Laces are sturdy and just the right length. I bought a size larger and a wide fitting, and glad that I did. What’s not so good? Not much instep support. Something – probably a metal lace holder – presses through the boot leather into my right ankle bone, narrowly missing a vein, and causing significant discomfort. This is not what I expect from a very expensive pair of boots!CommentaryThe package arrived earlier than predicted. Inside it contained a slip warning that returns would only be accepted if the boots were in mint condition. So I tried them on and trod softly around the carpeted lounge for 10 minutes. There were no obvious issues, apart from a tendency for them to lean in towards the insteps. I have flat feet, so this is a problem for me. Luckily, I have a pair of trusty hard plastic inserts bought from Scholl years ago, and these corrected the problem.I decided to accept the boots, and wore them to walk down to town on dry urban pavements later that day (about 2 miles). They were reasonably comfortable, with a slight rubbing around the heels and on the right ankle. Leather boots, I reasoned, take some time to wear in, so I wasn’t overly concerned. A couple of days later, after applying dubbin, I went on a rural coastal walk, over chalk, shale and mud (5 miles). The boots were perfectly waterproof. However, despite padding the right ankle bone under the sock, by the end of the walk it was hurting quite badly. When I looked at the area there was a pea-sized indentation just above the bone, and just below the protruding vein running above it. There was no such issue with the left boot. These boots are not cheap, and I am not happy with this!

A few months in and these are amazing
I wanted to give these a good few outings before I left a review. These are simply superb. I have really wide feet and I love to walk and these have been tested on some full on winter terrains. I put a layer of Dobbin on them and they are completely waterproof as well. Will definitely buy more!

Impressed
I was worried about sizing as several places suggested getting a size bigger. I didn't and went with my normal size.......... perfect fit. These walking boots arrived within 36 hours of ordering - good packaging. The width across the base of the toes is wide which suits my feet perfectly - they feel really comfy. The leather of the boot 'tongue' and ankle area seems a little stiff but I am sure will soften with wearing. They are lightweight and I can't wait to take them out on a hike.

Really enjoying wearing these
Haven’t put these to the test totally yet, just a few miles a day whilst I try them out prior to a long hike, but I genuinely don’t think they’ll be a problem, lightweight, good grip (much better than other zero drop shoes I’ve tried) with the normal expected wide toe box allowing my feet to feel they can breathe and avoid blisters. Waterproof through damp grass … I’m impressed!

Not for everyone
Smooth and supple leather. Excellent laces which don't unravel when wearing. Well made boot but unfortunately not for me. The soles are good and slip resistant but I could feel stones through them on rough terrain. I guess my body is too old to adjust to barefoot shoes, I developed shin splints and a ruptured tendon from wearing barefoots and was recommended to return to footwear with good arch supports.

Great hiking boots
After trying several other brands and extensive research, I finally found comfortable hiking boots that don’t squash my toes or hurt my ankles. I have small feet (size 7-7.5), but always have a hard time finding the right shoes. I ended up ordering a 7.5 wide, and these fit perfectly (though slightly on the larger side). So far I’ve hiked a few trails and a mountain (rocks, mud and puddles) — no issues. Highly recommend!

Ankle Eylets Break Off
I like the way these boots fit and really like the grip of the Michelin soles, Unfortunately, around day150 the right inner ankle eyelet broke off. I checked the left inner eyelet to see how secure it was and it popped off in my hand. Very disappointing quality for the price paid.

Not very wide
These were not wide enough for my feet. The top of my foot before my toes felt squished and my toes were unable to separate.

Not worth the money.
Bought these for a trip to Paris. One eyelet broke off when I tried tying them the very first time. Too much money for shoddy workmanship. Can't return because its over 30 days.

The most rugged, lightweight barefoot trekking boots
These boots are amazing. I wear barefoot shoes (need the flexibility and wide toe box) and these perfectly marry the ability to safely hike a mountain (or several!), while feeling like my feet are not in prisons. Other brands have been heavier and less flexible, or really flimsy. These are Goldilocks "just right". The leather breathes well, and they dry quickly after getting wet (waterproofing with Renapur or other leather conditioner really helps!) Used them hiking as cold as -15°F (with ski socks) and in weather as hot as 90°F. The original pair has ~400 miles on them, and not really showing any wear except a few scrapes from stubbing rocks.Liked them so much, I bought a 2nd pair for work.
