I have been cutting, splitting and burning wood since 1985. I start it in the fall and it burns unto the spring. I am very partial to the Consolidated Dutchwest XL Vermont Casting wood stove. I can side load 23” long would into it. It is equipped with a catalytic combustor. This combustor ensures a long burn time. Up to twelve hours. It also keeps the flue cleaner. I burn ½ the wood each winter because of it. The combustor used to last almost 5 years. Now they last about 2 ½ years. Yesterday the stove started barfing smoke. I let the fire burn out, removed the top and discovered the combustor had completely disintegrated. lt lasted only 2 ½ years. It is supposedly ceramic. They are also available in steel. I do not think I have ever used a steel one. Does anyone know if the steel ones are better? Fortunately I had 2 new ones in the basement ready to go. I got them from MIDWEST Hearth for $149.95 each. Model# MH-2C Ceramic 6” X 2” Round. It comes with a prorated warranty. By the time you pay to ship it back and pay for shipping the new part along with only a 30% discount on a 2 ½ year old one, the warranty from MIDWEST Hearth is totally lame and useless. The only one it benefit’s is MIDWEST Hearth. They get to sell you another one at your trouble, time, expense and to their profit. I found one for $59.99 Heck at that price, if it is legit quality, I would replace it every year! It has very good reviews. Please see the following: ohioboater 5.0 out of 5 stars Direct replacement for OEM catalytic converter Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2024 Style Name: 6"x2" MetalAmazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? ) FOLLOW UP REVIEW: This is a follow up now that I have installed and started using this catalyst. I have a Dutchwest 2461, and in spite of what some other 2461 owners have said below, this catalyst fit very nicely into my stove. It's actually better constructed than the OEM catalyst that it replaced. Instead of the metal collar being cheaply riveted together, this version has a seamless collar. Performance after installing it has been phenomenal. This catalyst heats up and lights off much more easily than an OEM unit. For the folks who had bad experiences, I'm noticing that the company now lists two versions - "ceramic" and "metal." I'm wondering if maybe the two are slightly different in size. Also wondering if maybe only the "metal" version actually has platinum embedded in the honeycomb. Based on the pictures, my version is the one labeled as "metal," and it works great. I hope this will help some. I will NOT be purchasing MIDWEST Hearth products any longer! Wood heat up and running/burning in about an hour

Bought this a year ago. It worked well for the first few months but gradually started to be less efficient. This year when we cleaned it little flakes of metal came off. It no longer works efficiently. Most of the time it's barely combusting despite using dry, well-seasoned wood. It's junk compared to others that I have had that lasted at least five years. Don't waste your money.

Fit fine.

While quite expensive this Cinder catalytic is reliable and performs well. I continually use my stove 7 1/2 months a year and get a full season plus a couple months the following year of good performance. I don't understand the high price, but it does the job.

This little 2" X 6" Cat really works in my Custom made Stainless steel catalytic Converter / diverter. Idea came from one My dad had back in the 80's 90's One similar to what I made , his was the Black steel like heavy BLK Stove pipe, Mine is made of Stainless Sheetmetal. I sandwiched 2 C channel shaped pcs of SS Sheetmetal 2 1/8"X 6 1/8" Gap X 13 " long one on top of other and sealed it with gasket meant for the Green Egg cookers, Made ends for it in brake press, mig welded one end, other end is serviceable When it is Ready MIN. 500 DG F, I slide it into the pipe position and it lights off to about 800-900+ degree and I look out at my chimney and no more smoke, or very little wisp of smoke, great reduction in Creosote in my 21' of Triple wall SS chimney. I will try to attach a pic soon , if possible. When i get up at 6 AM its still 500 DG
