Q: the AV3000 will not allow me to switch from left to right? left side has a hexagon male and female end

At the end of the handle nut screw will be a plastic spacer. This part needs to come off with the screw and be moved to the other side. If that part is not removed, then the hexagon shaft will not slide in place on the opposite side of the handle. Remove that plastic spacer and move it to the other side of the reel.

Q: can i use 8 lb. test line with the av-1000a Model?

Yes. It’s within the line weight for the reel, but more importantly it’s a personal decision. No right or wrong. I have a few small/ ultra Shimanos. I prefer 2 lbs with size 500 and 4 lbs with the 1000 because of personal preference with Finesse fish in the late Fall.

It holds 65-70 yrs of mono depending on how tightly you load it.
