The most practical and effective Christian parenting book
I have read SO MANY CHRISTIAN PARENTING BOOKS in my short 10 years of parenting. This is ABOVE AND BEYOND any of the other books I have read. The author is so incredibly practical that you can totally relate to him and his family - but also have incredible practical tools to adopt his “habits” into your own. I love how the book is broken down into sections (work, screentime, meals, etc!) because it makes it an easy book to read, but also study with others. I listened on audiobook first, and loved the book so much I bought a physical copy for my husband to read. I wish every Christian parent had this book in their resource library because we can truly change the world and the trajectory of the next generation if we adopt these “habits of the household!” 10/10 recommend!!!!

Such an insightful tool!
My wife and I are new parents, and we recently got this book because we wanted to avoid falling into bad parenting habits. From the start, we were hooked by the author’s sarcastic yet insightful tone, which adds a refreshing touch to the advice. The writing is clear, relatable, and easy to follow, making it accessible even when we're exhausted from sleepless nights. What really stood out to us were the practical, actionable steps he provides for changing habits and creating a home environment that encourages spiritual growth. The advice feels both doable and meaningful, which is a rare combination. I highly recommend this book to current parents, as well as couples who are thinking about starting a family—it’s a game changer!

A Must Read for Any Parent!
This book is biblically sound, an easy read with real life stories woven throughout. BUT it is also extremely practical in nature. After each chapter you can immediately implement habits and routines in your home, for families of toddlers to teenagers. I highly recommend this book to any parent who wishes to disciple their children well for the kingdom of God.

You will be a better parent
Really great book full of practical parenting advice coming from a real parent that understands raw every day life. I have a new perspective on many things thanks to this book. Highly recommend.I had one issue, when they recommended content for kids, Harry Potter was included 🤔 I found that odd, but there’s too many other great things to make a big deal about that.

Accessible, relatable, and practical.
Habits of the Household feels like a step forward from The Common Rule, which I last read in 2022—though a lot has shifted since then: myself, my family, and the world. His writing is accessible, relatable, and practical, yet carries the understated finesse of a competent intellectual and artist who knows when to hold back. There's a thoughtful rhythm between intellect, emotion, and action throughout the book, which I found refreshing. Earley comes across less like a distant expert and more like a steady friend, gently saying, “God’s got us—let’s figure this out together. Here’s a few things to try.”

Must-read!
A must-read for any young Christian family. One of those books you must own, as I know we'll keep coming back to it for years. I love that that each chapter has such thoughtful and intentional ideas with a few pages at the end with a summary for each reference. Wish I had read this sooner!!

Promise if you give this a try for a month, you will become closer to Jesus and your family.
Not sure whether anyone can relate to this…. was born and raised Catholic. Went to college (and read DaVinci Code) and fell away from faith. Had an identity crisis and found Jesus. Could not get wife to agree to go to Catholic church, so we settled on Methodist (contemporary service). Read the bible for the first time of my life, and realized it was way different than I expected… lots of beautiful stories that are all intertwined. Wanted more and more to be like Jesus but was not sure what that would look like from a practical perspective. Friend (studying to be a pastor) and I were having dinner one night, and he showed me The Common Rule. He said, what if we try this out with a few friends for a month to see how it goes. 2.5 years later, we are still meeting on Sunday evenings speaking to the grace we observe when practicing these habits. The nerdier of us downloaded an app to help keep track. With this as the background (i.e. super fans of the message), of course we pre-ordered Habits of the Household. Really love it b/c again it provides practical ways to share the message of Jesus with our son and as a family. The Common Rule really strengthened our marriage, and I see the Habits of the Household strengthening the family. For example, one way to strengthen the family is not to divide the family… seems obvious in writing it… this book provides a great methodology to avoid overreacting to disobedience. Another great section is around screen time. We are not as disciplined as the Earley’s, but we are getting better during dinner time… kids love fire… the candle really works.Anyway… to avoid too much rambling… cannot recommend buying this book and giving the habits a try. It is very well written. Humble and relatable. Promise if you give this a try for a month, you will become closer to Jesus and your family. That is 100% guaranteed.
