Worked as expected. The original's rubber had been dissolved and torn, presumably by years of the chlorine in the water. Note: unscrewing the chrome top of the valve may be very tough and it'll seem stuck, even with a strap wrench because it's just water under there and thus a vaccum prevents the top from moving up. now that i think about it probably should leave the water source on at least a little while unscrewing to not deal with it. or initiate a flush while the water is still somewhat on and then immediately turn it off. Not going to experiment on it now, but yeah it's probably THAT and not that it's corroded together. Don't just keep cranking on it or you may pull the pipes out of the wall.

The relief valve to an important disability washroom toilet closet was damaged beyond repair. This replacement did just the trick. It's running beautifully now and only took a couple of minutes to insert.
