--UPDATED REVIEW-- I changed the stars from 2 to 5 for a very simple reason: CUSTOMER SERVICE FIXED THE ISSUE I was contacted by GVM customer service after I posted my review. They asked what was wrong and offered to fix the problem. What did they do? Well...the sort of OVERCOMPENSATED, but also messed up again. Instead of sending me a replacement power cable (which would've fixed the issue and also not cost them much money) they decided to send me an entirely new light...the same as what I had ordered...to replace the bad light. Well...this was GREAT! Because these lights (when they worK) are fantastic...but then someone on their end at their warehouse messed up and the light they sent me was CLEARLY used...there was wear and tear on the light...the knobs had the paint rubbed off and there were scratches and dings...HOWEVER to be fair...it DID WORK...and is still working, I might add. So then they followed up to see if I was happy and I told them about the light. Then they offered to send me ANOTHER light. (That would mean I paid for 3, received 2 that worked, one that didn't, and then had two replacements sent to me making my total 4 working lights for the price of 3) I told them to JUST send me the replacement power cord...save the light (I do have a conscience) and I'd be happy. Well, not only did they send me the power cable with tracking numbers and shipped very quickly, but then they followed up multiple times to make sure I was happy. THIS IS WHAT MAKES LOYAL CUSTOMERS. So many businesses nowadays have TERRIBLE customer service, but not GVM. They took EXCELLENT care of me and made sure that I was taken care of. They actually went far above and beyond what was called for. And I appreciate it. My next lights will most likely be from GVM. Thank you! This is a review with two main points: #1 - How good are these lights in theory? #2 - How good are these lights in actuality? The answer to #1 is really quite simple: the lights are GREAT. They're perfect for small studio lighting, for atmosphere lighting, for accent lighting and, in the right situation, you can use them as a key light. I got the three pack and the add-on diffusers and they are fantastic. The lighting colors are wonderful to work with and really add a new dimension for YouTube shooting, small production shooting, commercials, etc. And the value is FANTASTIC. They are FAR cheaper than the big boys like Arri and, having show with the big boys, unless a studio if footing your bill, you just can't afford them in practicality. So these do a FANTASTIC job if you know how to use them. They don't get hot. They don't draw a lot of power. They light the scene. They're easy to transport, lightweight and come in a very usable soft duffle.No, you can't light up a large room with just the three, but if you're doing an intimate scene with 2 or 3 people, you can light it and if you're doing EPK's, interviews, documentary, etc., they're PERFECT and AFFORDABLE. so we get to #2: How good are they in actuality? Well, now you see why I gave it two stars. I was shipped the three pack at the height of the pandemic and had the shipment delivered to my studio in Los Angeles, however because of the pandemic I was stranded in New Jersey with all the airports shut down. So I didn't get my hands on these lights until SEPTEMBER and didn't really get to break them out and start using them on jobs until November...and that's when I discovered that one of the power cables is completely inoperative. So I effectively have one useless light unless I want to always power it from Sony Batteries. Since much of what I shoot is either in my studio or at locations with power, I almost never lug around batteries needlessly. And since the pandemic made so much time go by Amazon won't replace the lights with working ones and GVM isn't returning my correspondence. So I'm stuck with 2 lights when I paid for 3 due to either shoddy manufacturing, poor quality control or general bad luck. And the ultimate culpret is poor customer service from GVM. So you get what you pay for. You can roll the dice and you may get three wonderful lights or you could end up like me with only 2 working lights when you paid for 3. Risk it and see what the wheel deals you or pay a little more for higher quality merchandise. Of course I am open to adjusting this review with an update if GVM's customer service actually decides to make things right.

Over the past few years I have purchased many LED panels but none of them have been RGB, a few daylight and many bi-color panels and I resorted to gelling the lights to use them as accent lighting for video and photos alike. But now I have finally taken the leap and purchased these GVM 50RS RGB panels to make things easier, and boy do they ever. First off let me say I was taken back by the weight of this package. The Amazon driver pulled up as I was by the truck so I had him put it directly in the back of my truck so I had no clue how heavy it was. Well I get back to the house (I live on the 2nd floor in the back) and I went to pick the box up and carry it into the house, but little did I know but this thing weighed like almost 40 lbs. So I get it in the house and open it up and it was as large as the box it was in. And inside was a very nice carry case with all the goodies neatly packed inside. Once I started taking the panels out I figured out way it weighs so much..... These lights are built like tanks... The main body and bracket are full aluminum build with the body having fins on the back, the only part that is plastic is the barn doors, defuser sheet and the control interface. It includes 3 bricks for power and 3 light to medium duty light stands that seem to be of decent quality. The lights themselves are pretty bright, around 45-50 watt range but the best part is the colors it is capable of creating is wonderful. The colors are so deep and rich in color, something that is harder to do with gels. I feel that having this level of versatility will really step up my game. Overall I am very pleased with my new set of lights and look forward to more GVM products in the future. Pros: Solid build quality Very deep colors Easy to use controls and phone app Convenient carrying case for all three lights Decent light stands.. Not some cheap stands that barely hold the lights up Cons: Heavy, but that is a side effect of having solid build quality Slight banding when using the barn doors due to lines molded into them and being slightly shiny A little wonky system for keeping the diffusion panel in place but it works.

GVM 1500D RGB LED Video Light with Softbox, 75W Video Lighting Kit Nicely made light- not quite bright enough for DSLR, but good for cell phone cameras. I am a retired professional photographer and portrait studio owner for 20 years. I got these GVM 1500D lights for our local photography club members to use. The lights themselves are sturdy metal, very well made, and solid. I was impressed. They work as advertised. The tripods that came with the light kit I got in November 2025 are pretty decent, made of metal and seemed quite solid and stable with a large footprint of the legs. They are tall enough for the light to be 7 feet high. But, realize these GVM 1500D LED lights are not nearly as bright as regular studio strobe lights, so you’ll be limited in what you can do with them exposure-wise. They are barely bright enough to use with DSLR cameras. They seem very bright to our eye and will easily light up a whole room that looks good to our eye. But, in reality it’s only bright enough to be used with regular DSLR cameras if you place the light close to the subject. It would be great with cell phone cameras (more on that shortly). The output with the light 4.0 feet from the subject measures at 1/60th second and f/5.6, testing with a gray card as the subject. This is with the color set to 4500 Kelvin. The light brightness varies as you change the color, so increasing or decreasing the Kelvin setting from 4500 will dim the light. For portrait photography, you could use 2 lights placed next to each other as the main light illuminating the subject. That would meter at 4.0 feet as 1/60th and f/8.0. That's usable. If you have a three-light kit, you could use the 3rd light as a fill light to get the proper portrait lighting ratios. A problem with lights that are continuously on is when they are only a few feet away, it uncomfortably blasts the subject person in the face. But that’s the nature of continuous lights. Because the lights are not very bright you can’t move the light farther away. That said, the lights would be excellent for cell phone camera photography. Cells phones can take good photos in dimmer light because they do a lot of image processing and brighten the image by using HDR techniques, stacking multiple images, and spot adjusting parts of the image like an expert would do in photoshop. But with all that processing you do lose some things, like dynamic range, tonal subtleties, detail, etc. But, with cell phone cameras, these GVM 1500D lights give you a nice bright image even in a fair-sized room. If you can accept the image that a cell phone camera produces, these lights would be fine. Very good for amateur use with a cell phone camera. But to do quality commercial work with a DSLR camera, they are not suitable because they are just not bright enough and the lights need to be very close to the subject, limiting your space to work posing, positioning, using props, etc., especially if more than one person is the subject. The GVM 1500D lights come with barn doors made of thin plastic, FLIMSY and easy to break. Also, the way they are mounted to the light frame, they interfere with aiming the lights because they bump into the frame. But, there are a couple sets of mounting threads so you can screw the knobs into the lower set giving a little more room to tilt the light downwards before it hits the barndoor. If you want to remove the barndoors from the light, you need to use an Allen wrench (not included) to remove the 4 screws that hold them on to the light. These screws do have a big head like a knurled knob intended to be loosened with your fingers. But, mine were so tight I had to use pliers to get them off. So, taking off the barndoors is not quickly or easily done. What a terrible design. They should have been held on by clips or something quicker and less difficult than Allen screws. The kit comes with some parts they loosely call a softbox. In reality what you get are some parts to convert the barndoors into something like a small softbox. You make this conversion by attaching 4 plastic corner pieces to the barndoors, then velcro a white cloth panel to the 4 corner pieces. There is also an included grid that goes on the light. If you want to use it, then you have to velcro it onto the 4 softbox plastic corners that you attached to the barn doors. The "softbox" or grid has to be assembled from 6 parts each time you want to use them and then undone if you want to use the barndoors again. This is a slow tedious task. When the softbox or grid material is attached, the barndoors can't be used unless you disassemble the whole contraption. You could just assemble the softbox and leave it set up permanently, otherwise the softbox and grid attachments are worthless. I thought about mounting an umbrella or real softbox in front of the light, but the light is just not bright enough to go through the umbrella or softbox fabric and light the subject. This is true even with the included “softbox”. So much light is lost going through the fabric, that there is little left to illuminate the subject. The best I was able to get with the softbox three feet from the subject was 1/60 second at f/4.0. This is way too dim for use with a DSLR, but fine for a cell phone camera. The GVM 1500D lights themselves work great either plugged into the power adaptor which plugs into the 110VAC wall socket or using the Neewer NW-F970 batteries I bought to go with it. The light kit does not come with batteries but does include the 110 VAC wall plug charger. Each light takes 2 batteries. It takes overnight to charge the batteries with the charger I bought (Neewer USB Dual Fast Battery Charger), which is anything but fast. This one plugs into a USB port on your computer, or USB charge adaptor. They take many hours (overnight) to charge using USB, but to their credit, once charged I ran the light at 100% light power and they lasted almost 3 hours. You can buy a separate charger (Neewer 4-Channel NP-F Battery Charger) for about $40 that says it’ll charge batteries in a couple hours, but mine took 6 hours to charge 4 batteries. Using these lights on battery power for over 2 hours and not having to run extension cords from an outlet makes them very versatile. I really like this feature. I did not try the remote control cell phone app for the lights, because from everything I read it's unreliable and a pain to use. I just used the knobs on the back of the lights. They work well. So if you keep it simple and adjust the lights by hand, they be fine. If you want to use all the included special effects modes and set the lights using your cell phone app, you might be frustrated. I did try the button controls on the back of the light themselves. They work well. A really nice feature is that you can set one light to Master and other lights to Slave. Then you can control all the lights simultaneously (brightness and color) from the knobs on the master light. This would be handy if you had set up a lighting ratio on the subject (like portrait 3:1 lighting) and you wanted to change the overall exposure. The slave function means you could brighten or dim (or change color temp) of all the lights with one knob while preserving the lighting ratio. You don’t need a cell phone app to do these basic functions- it’s all on the lights themselves. But if you want to use the special effects like TV, Candle, Cop Car, Lightning, Paparazzi, Disco, Party, Bad Bulb, you’ll need to do it using the cell phone app. Overall, the GVM 1500D lights worked well and are well made. The stuff that is included with the light kit like the softbox and barn doors are just junk thrown in to make it look like you are getting a lot of stuff. I can recommend the lights for amateur/hobby use, especially with a cell phone camera and when operated manually. Anything more than that kind of usage or trying to use them with a DSLR and you'll likely be a bit disappointed. The carrying case is very nice, well padded, with enough space for everything. The part where the tripods go is partitioned and padded so they don’t damage the lights. It has a strong strap-type handle. Each light and tripod has its own heavy fabric, waterproof bag. Kudos for including this case with the light kit. I did not try out the modes with special effect lighting because you have to do it using a cell phone app and I only wanted to use the lights themselves. I also did not consider their use with video cameras. For the price, especially if you get it on sale or with coupons, the GVM 1500D light kit is a good one if you understand the limitations.

I really love these lights! With the cord, they were great, but now that I’ve switched to battery on these they are a GAME CHANGER! For the price, you can’t do better. That said, they did make sacrifices to keep the cost down. A few of the cons to these (but again, I still gave 5 stars because in this price point you really can’t go wrong with these) 1) The barn doors and light casing is cheap plastic. So far they’ve held up but I was really hoping for something more. Also, beware - if you turn the light without loosening it a good amount, you could force the bolt on the side to split the plastic bracket. That would essentially make this light useless, so there’s that. 2) The stands are absolute garbage. Others have mentioned it and if you front mount your lights and raise them above chest level you’ll see what we mean, but that said, carry some sand bags and know that going into it. Don’t set these on uneven ground. Use common sense and you can get by. Still, I’ve replaced each stand and use the ones that came with as a backup now. 3) The app to control the lights really needs some work, if you just need to control one light at a time, it works fine. If you need to control a group of them or set a scene, you’re out of luck. You have to log in and log out of each light to get to the next and it takes far too long if your changing them real-time for video or production, but if you’re just setting up shots and can afford to take the time to adjust each separately, then you’re good. Despite the negatives, I didn’t buy these for the stands and I have high hopes they will get the app and functionality up to par. The lights, however, are my go to for 90% of my sets and at this price, that’s just kinda crazy.

These lights are stunning!! Very good quality, very sturdy. All three lights can be controlled by the app, independently or any combination of 'master and slave' settings. Using the app on this light is even easier than on previous GVM lights as it uses the GVM II App and you are able to link it in less than 15 seconds.. Just switch the light to APP, then open the app and it will scan for BT items, once found in the list you hit connect. That is it.. No setting up WiFi needed. Plus I don't have to disconnect my phone from my WiFi network to use these lights. They have a nice variety of lighting effects; disco, party, cops, lighting, paparazzi, candles, TV glow, flickering bad bulbs with any degree of intensity from 0 - 100%. With the RGB and bi-color functions of these lights, they are very versatile. Super easy to set up with tripod stands that adjust to up to 8 feet tall. The lighting is perfect for glamorous photo shoots or just regular casual photo shoots. Well-made and perfect for a self-starter photographer. Build quality of the lights is good. Metal construction, solid. They seem like they will last a long time. Especially with the supplied case, which should keep them all safe when transporting.

We're using these for small stage lights versus photo lights. They are hung from truss and we have the softbox attachment which is great. The quality of light is excellent- color temp between the 3 is close enough. The app works well, however, it is not fast - requires connecting to each light to make changes. One thing that is helpful for us is that if they are powered off (not through the app) but by a switch etc - they remember the last state they were in - color temp, brightness etc. For photography or video, I would definitely get this power range of lights - less and you would have to have the lights much closer to the subject.

I've compared the GVM 50rs lights to Neewer and Weeylite in the prosumer range and find the quality of the whites to be superior to those. The Neewer, iin particular, seems to add a slight reddish hue at 5600k to my face whereas the GVM doesn't. The RGB is a closer call. The barndoors and diffuser are great for controlling light dispersion. What isn't great is the app. It's terrible. The other two lights use Bluetooth as a connector and they connect immediately. GVM uses WIFI and requires you to change the WIFI on your phone to their GVM WIFI so that the app can talk to the light but it talks slowly and connections drop regularly making the whole experience a royal pain. If you're looking for good quality light, I'd recommend these. If having an app that allows quick control of your lighting setup is important, you'll be disappointed. I don't see how GVM can fix this as I don't think they included Bluetooth in these so unless they can figure out a way to pair the lights to the app's WIFI instead of the current way of pairing the app to the lights WIFI, it's a situation you'll have to live with.

Nice, compact and easy to use. I gifted this to my non-technical son to use in his college photography class. Portable and stores well in his small dorm room. The user manual is not well written. In fact, tech-support suggest “you not read the user manual.” But go for first hands on user experience. The app, known as ‘GVM easily’ available from the Apple or play store makes controlling the lights a snap. I found the GVM Website noisey with overbearing sales traffic. The California-based technical support office, was extremely helpful in finding the right app , answering technical questions, and initial setup. This helped me side step bad reviews and misleading information about equipment configuration issues.
