New Owners! Awesome Hay! Give them a chance - their hay is lovely and they stand by it.
Viking Farmer now has new owners, yay! VF hay used to be the only hay my bunnies would eat then quality declined so dramatically (tons of weeds including thistles and foxtails, lots of brown and dust) I had to search for a replacement (very stressful and expensive). It had been awhile, so I hoped the issues had resolved and checked the website. Found out there were new owners so I emailed them asking about the hay. I got a response within the hour from Jenn and she told me all about their hay and history and answered all of my questions. So, I decided to give them a try again. I ordered both the 1st and 3rd cut and both were vibrant green and long - just how you'd hope and expect your hay would look. And they smell wonderful. I'm so glad the new owners have turned things around. I can wholeheartedly recommend their hay. It's great quality so now it's just up your pets to decide if they like the taste (if they're super picky like mine - mine are older and prefer the 3rd). If you have questions, do go to their website and send them an email - you'll be glad you did.

low quality.
I usually don’t leave reviews, but lately I was absolutely force with how bad the quality of the hay is. Upon opening the box, a cloud of dust flew out, the hay looked brown and terrible quality, when I reached in to grab a handful for a closer inspection same thing, the whole box is useless. Not healthy or recommended for any bunnies. low quality.Very disappointed

New owners getting it right!
Ok yall--After reading the recent review from blueskye, I took a chance and ordered a new 3rd cut box based on skye's review....and it's awesome!I also emailed the company and just as skye said, Jenn replied quickly and explained that her family has taken over the company and provides great hay (true!) and stands behind their product. We received the hay today and it's really great! Long, green strands that smell amazing-- and my guinea pigs love it!Give VF another try- the new ownership makes all the difference and the communication is on point too. No more unanswered emails and really good hay!EDIT 3/2025--Recently needed some customer service help from VF for another order I placed. Robert helped me this time and was wonderful! He was quick to reply and you can tell he's very committed to his products and customers (he and Jenn both are). I am very pleased with the hay and my guinea pigs are munching it as I type this! The new ownership has absolutely been a 180 for the company and they genuinely care. 10/10

Excellent Product
Thank you for the wonderful hay. My pet rabbits love it and eat it like fiends. I will definitely order again.

Hit or Miss
My rabbits to love this hay but often we get a box that has more Dust and little pieces than actual hay. I feel like its 70% good hay and the rest is trash. Its disappointing when you find a hay that your rabbit but the quality is not CONSISTENTLY as good as it should be with every box. Because of that, I would like to give it 3 1/2 stars definitely not worthy of four and I believe three it’s too little because my rabbits like the hay and its not dried out or dead.

My bunnies wanted nothing to do with this 3rd cutting.
Everything seemed good. Box in good shape, product in good shape(no mold, smelled sweet). Company seems cool.My bunnies avoided it, ate around it. My bad for getting 3rd cut Timothy, but I figured they would still eat it. Nope.Just looks like grass clippings, nothing to chomp on. They need that crunch.May work for baby bunnies or other animals, but not my 7 month olds(I guess they are still babies😉).

top-quality hay is all soft grass and no nibbly bits, but bunny still enjoys
My adopted-as-an-adult lop bunny wouldn't eat anything but alfalfa until I introduced him to Viking Farmer's 2nd cut timothy, whereupon he happily made the switch and never looked back. The grower is great and the hay is top quality. But all hay cuts are seasonal, and when 2nd cut became unavailable I switched to 3rd cut. This cut is uniformly softer, smaller pieces without any stalks or flower heads; bunny still likes it but doesn't chow down on it with quite as much gusto. Figuring he needed some crunchier stalks and heads for variety, I got him some Viking Farmer 1st cut timothy to mix in, but that's much coarser and apparently more stalky than he prefers, as even the flower heads mostly wind up on the floor when he tosses it aside to reach the 3rd cut bits. I suspect 1st cut might be a better choice for larger animals in need of more roughage (see photos for comparison: (1) 1st cut at right, 3rd cut at left; (2) 3rd cut at top, 1st at bottom.Short take: 2nd cut is this bunny's sweet spot, but 3rd cut makes a nice addition to the mix and a decent substitute when 2nd runs out. Trying the VF orchard grass next…

Loved this until I didn’t
Had been buying this brand, third cut Timothy hay, from this company for a while with no issue; soft hay pieces with little to no seeds or weeds. However, my latest purchase was a disaster. I didn’t realize it at first but soon I saw my bunny had some really sticky seed burr things stuck all over his fur, including his face. I checked the hay, and it was absolutely full of weeds and leaves, and, most importantly, in this case, very sticky, painful seed ends. They hurt, they are difficult to get out of hair and my whole house ended up covered in them because they spread easily. My bunny is sensitive and did not like having to have these seed pods pulled from his hair and he quit eating hay for a while until I got him a different kind, a better kind with no weeds or burrs. As another inconvenience, seed pods stuck totally in the mat I had for my bunny and they are near impossible to remove so I will likely have to replace his mat as well. I emailed the company and have heard nothing back and have no expectation of any reply, or ability to address my issue. I won’t be purchasing this hay in the future. I’ve posted some pictures of the absolute clumps of seed, pods and weeds and things that are clearly not smooth soft third cut Timothy hay. You can see the leaves, the weed stalks, and the general clumps of what should be smooth and soft hay. Sad about it.
