This graphic novel is a masterpiece of storytelling and illustration—a must-read for anyone who loves emotional and beautifully crafted stories. Review: My child loves these books! - I have a teenager with Cerebral Palsy and she loves to read. She checked out a book by this author and fell in love with the pictures and comic strip style writing. After she repeatedly checked out Drama from the school library, I had to order it and this one. She was instantly mesmerized . She is putting down her tablet and reaching for these books instead. She is already asking for a few more of her books. I’m so happy she discovered them. I’d rather buy her books than have her stuck on a tablet all day. These books have her switching character voices and singing, clapping and interacting with whatever the characters are doing in the storyline. Who knew reading a book could be exercise as well. Thank you for such a lively book. It’s brought many joyous hours of us reading and acting out scenes from both of the books she has. GUTS” next.

Best book EVER
ok, so this book is so completely different than the other books. I am not saying I dont like it...I love it!! I am 11 years old and I purchased this book on my kindle on Dec 27 , 2017 And I have got to say.....This book is amazing! It talks about a girl named Catherine or Cat (the way she likes to call it) and her sister , Maya. Maya does have cystic fibrosis and sadly there is no cure. They moved to a place called Bahia Fe Luna (I speak spanish) to help her with her breathing. Although, They have many adventures and they meet a boy named Carlos. Cattherine thinks he is trying to scare them about ghosts. But later in the book, they find out that ghosts are real on the day of the dead. I don't exactly like the part , however where Catherine starts to scream at Carlos accusing him for having Maya's cystic fibrosis get worse because of the ghosts Calros showed them. I thought that part was a little bit too much of drama....but anyways the rest of the book is pleasent and very loving. My favorite part of the book is when Catherine meets thatt old lady at the halloween party who she thinks is her grandmother. This part shows love and kindness because Catherine gives juice and love to that old lady who Catherine doesnt even know. Even if that old lady is a ghost, Catherine got used to it and gave love to almost everyone in the book. Also this book is very simalar to Sisters because Catherine and Maya get along and Catherine tries to help Maya feel better. Since there is no cure for Maya 's cystic fibrosis .....she keeps thinking about dying. That part makes me feel sad for Maya. Until when a little kid ghost (Carlos 's uncle) talks with Maya about how it is like to be a ghost. The part that leaves kind of a cliffhanger is the part when the cat at the end of the book looks like he/she cooks the food. I really want to know who that cat is and what did it do. I think The cat is the grandmother. Overall...I definetely recommend this book to all readers of any age! Amazing book Raina Telemeiger!! :)

Trendy
Graphic novels and comic books can be approached by their creators many different ways and one of the first choices usually is: Am I creating a movie with static captured frames or an illustrated novel. My personal preference is the latter. Pregnant pauses and wordless panels that are meant to convey meaning don't grab me. Instead, I barely glance at the illustration and speed through it. I know they are out of favor now but I much prefer the literary captions that the old EC comics, early 60's Marvels and even overwrought romance comics used to have. Well, not to slam a book that clearly chose the former, and to take it at its own level, I have to say this is beautifully illustrated and pitch-perfect in its tone and approach that is maintained consistently throughout. That last aspect is so hard to do and is done effortlessly here.
