Nice trip down memory lane
The Three Investigators take me back to childhood memories. I encountered the series as "Die Drei ???" in German in the 70's. Back then, these were rather hard to come by. The books were pricey, and almost always unavailable at the library, due to high demand. As I find now, the English original is better than the translation. As originals often are.Despite being a children's book, it is quite entertaining to read. Greatly enjoyed it. Of cause for an adult, these 160 pages are a quick read. Never dull nor dumb. Of cause, the heroes always get out of any tricky situation - either by wit or by luck. No deep drama and always a happy ending. But still loads of obstacles for our heroes to overcome, keeping the story entertaining.First published in the UK in 1967, this copy was printed in 1988. Used but fair condition owned to its age.

Wonderful beginning
I have been reading The Three Investigators since i was a kid.Secret of Terror Castle is the first in the series and is a wonderful read. It not only combines some suspense and thrill, but also has some light hearted humour and wit. As with the rest of the series, this book too teaches a few things to the reader, unlike other popular teenage crime fiction i have read. The Three Investigators certainly score over the others in this area.I would seriously recommend this book to any teenager interested in crime fiction. Its simple to follow and understand and uses everyday English, without the use of slang, colloquial jargon or abusive words..And i believe that anyone liking this book will SURELY go for other titles in the series !!!

A good introduction to the series
The first adventure of the Three Investigators introduces a number of long-running features of the series and sees the three boys, Jupiter, Pete and Bob, on their first investigation - to find a haunted house for Alfred Hitchcock to use in his next film. It's been a long time since I first read these books as a child, and I didn't remember how clearly distinct the characters were - Jupiter in particular comes across as something of a pompous know-it-all which in places early on seems a little irritating, though the character mellows throughout the story.Although it was written in the 1960s there's very little to significantly date the book and it would be easily readable for a young audience today, with a good amount of tension to keep the reader entertained. The mystery is fairly basic and reading as an adult some of the twists seemed obvious (but I have read it before and was surprised by some), but it serves to introduce the characters and set up the series. All round a nice trip down memory lane with a book that I think is still perfectly good for a youngster interested in mystery stories. I'm looking forward to re-reading the rest of the series, including those I missed out on as a child.

Genuinely Chilling
For the Three Investigators this has to be their scariest adventure. Set in a mysterious castle which is rumoured to be haunted, Jupiter Jones is determined to flush out it's secrets. However, this doesn't turn out to be as easy as he first thought it would. The castle gives everyone who enters the chills, including the Three Investigators AND the reader! You have been warned!I read this book both as a child and as an adult. It still gives me the creeps, and now my son is addicted to it, too.Very well written, the author knows just how to build up the tension of the reader and he does so with perfect timing and simple to read but intelligent dialogue. If you like suspense, you'll love this...and so will your kids.Gripping read!
