Q: Can these connectors be used with 16 awg speaker wire?

Yes you can use these connectors with 16 gauge wire. The connectors come apart so that you feed the stripped wire through their hollow middle “tube” portion. You then separate the wire strands and fold them over the tube end. When you place the banana plug portion back on it the metal portion makes contact with the folded over wires. I’ve used these and similar plugs for my 7.1 sound surround system with larger 8 and 12 awg wire. I had to strip off some of the 8 gage wire threads (subwoofer) to get that thicker wire to fit. If you are going for a higher end system application I would personally recommend the largest capacity awg size you can use. You will not be disappointed (I’ve learned from past experience that 16 and 14 awg can be used for short lengths but in this case ”bigger is better”)
