We rolled it out a couple of weeks before Christmas for everyone to enjoy. Our 3yo was elated. Lots of play time and zero problems. You probably should know a little about model trains though to ensure problem-free use. All the track pieces need to be flat (preferably hard surface), carefully lock them together, ensure every single wheel on each car is properly aligned. We purchased C cell to AA cell adapters to be able to use AA rechargeable batteries in this - works very well and we've had multiple days of playtime without needing a recharge. 2020 UPDATE - Still giving this great set 5 stars! We began using it early last year, then bought extra track and he played for a few months with it after Christmas as well. We brought it back out for this Christmas and it ran like a charm. Lights, sounds, overall look and operation are great. I still highly recommend using AA rechargeables instead of C batteries since the C batteries are so heavy - the engine needs 6.

Initially it’s cute but the train comes very easily off the tracks, year one, a few tracks broke and I purchased more. Year two the Donald attachment is broken, yes it’s liable but clearly just not made well. And now The remote stopped working, it’s been stored properly and while I’ve had it for two years, that’s only about 6 weeks of use. Now my “support window is closed,” So I now need to buy another, which I’ll be going with a different brand.

The Lionel Series of ready to play trains are awesome. We have two different sets. It is durable, kid friendly, fantastic remote control with bell, whistle and a couple of voice sayings "next stop north pole," and "next stop mickeys house" I only give it 4 stars because I expected the voices to be Disney Characters like Mickeys voice. But no they are a unknown voice, possibly intended to be Santa? Lionel missed the boat on the audio clips, but perhaps it was a licensing issue with Disney. Too bad. Other than that the train is like the other ready-to-play sets that Lionel produces. Kid friendly, easy to operate for even toddlers as early as 3- 4 years old, and rugged. Sets like these will get more kids interested in trains and model railroading as they grow older. You can not go wrong with the Ready-to-play Lionel sets.

I think this train is perfect for littles that absolutely loves Mickey Mouse and being the conductor. The Bluetooth was easy to understand and downloading with no purchase. The steam coming out was pretty cool, my son absolutely loved it! He plays with the train almost every night, you do have an option to let it run on its own or you can Bluetooth it and control it yourself. First time I’ve purchased a train set for Christmas and I’m happy with it.

We got this train to put around the Christmas tree for our toddler. It was a big hit however, has some flaws. It works well, as long as nothing touches it at all! If anything touches it even slightly, it will derail. Our son loves it which means he wants to play with it and it is constantly falling off the tracks so I am constantly having to fix it. Rather frustrating! The wheeels just sit on the track and move off really easily, sometimes even without little hands touching it. The trains work well and the sound effects are fun. The tracks are plastic and fairly easy to assemble. They tend to stay together too which is good! The connectors between cars leaves something to be desired. They are fairly loose and do not click or snap together so often the cars come apart too. Would have preferred a more secure latch. The cargo bay opens on one of the train cars which is a nice feature however, that also means our son wants to put everything in there and therefore touches it and details it! It’s a decent product for the price, as long as it doesn’t get touched at all!
