Nice and thick and matt, the coverage is great and a nice wide tub so you can get a decent sized paintbrush in. It has a chalk board kind of finish on board with one coat. I didn’t need two coats though recommended. Thought it was good value and better than using acrylic black which was too shiny.

It's taken me a while to understand how to use this (for my purposes). I've been experimenting using black gesso as a background for oil painting portraits. If you give your canvas at least 2 coats and allow 2-3 days for it to fully dry it is excellent. Do a test for your pigments to find out which ones work best on this background for your subject. I really like the effects you can produce

Love this gresso.. covers canvas very well.

Bought this to experiment with. New to acrylics, I thought I'd try painting on a black canvas panel. It covers well and dries quickly and although my art work was less than impressive this was not the fault of the product! I'm still experimenting but would recommend this gesso.

Great product works well and can mix other acrylics into it to give a different colour canvas.

I'm using the 500ml Mont Marte Black Gesso and absolutely love the consistency and coverage. It is smooth, dries matte, and works perfectly on canvas. The only thing I wish is that it came in a 1 litre jar as well. It would be much more convenient for frequent artists like me. Still, highly recommended.

Needs two or three coats, but works fine on so called "ready to use" dollar store canvases. Very nice.
