The Permanent Revolution

The Permanent revolution arrived in the post about a month into the civil war. The postal women (all the men are in the fight) got it to me after a lucky explosion on the ford prefecture opened up a narrow gully just wide enough to let her and the book through.I immediately tore up the packaging to use as gauze for one of her many shrapnel wounds, but ultimately it was too late.I Knew I was taking a risk with the postage taking so long, I had to wait for the trees to grow; pulped, printed and sent for me. But at the time I was concerned only with money. After reading the first few pages I knew the whole war was in vain when the ultimate concern of capitalistic gain, fueled a war spurred on by economies on all sides. If only the book had come sooner, and was read by all than so much could have been saved.

Excellent read.

If there was a zero stars option, I’d pick it twice. This is one of the most important books about the international struggle for socialism and this book is awful. It’s not an authentic copy. It’s a cheap copy and paste job that doesn’t even include Results and Prospects. If you read Trotskys Permanent Revolution, you must also read Results and Prospects.

While not one of Trotsky's finest works, The Permanent Revolution is certainly worth a read. Unfortunately, this edition is abysmal. It's riddled with typos and poor formatting. There's at least one place where a raw url link to a Wikipedia page was inadvertently left in after the "publisher" copy/pasted the public domain text. Most maddeningly, quotes are not offset or clearly identified, which, given that Trotsky quotes both himself and his opponents at some length, makes it difficult to follow the thrust of the argument.This is a text that's worth reading, and it deserves far better treatment than this shoddy edition.
