I love this overdrive! I know that it has distortion III written on its smokin' red exterior but it is an overdrive in my book. it has a great smooth drive which sustains very well. I would say that this pedal stands out from others because of its vitality and uniformity. Some guitar pedals need to be on that ONE setting to sound good or can't be played with this or that pedal. MXR built a pedal that can enhance anything you are doing! This pedal is used to take anything that I am playing up one notch. You just can't go wrong with this amazing overdrive!

No issues with the build quality. Tone is a personal thing so can't really comment except to say that I prefer my 40-year old Distortion Plus so I've already resold this in the used market.

This is my first mxr pedal. I compared it to a boss distortion pedal and found I like the crunch on this one better. The boss had more mids, this one sounds meatier. It also seems to do a fair job imitating tube response, the more you put in the more it puts out.
