Beautifully Written
I felt so many emotions reading this book, it’s so easy to feel every journey that Strider and Pen went through. From the first page up till the epilogue it was filled with so much emotion, I just wanted something good to happen for them both. The love is felt from the first page so beautiful and it’s like you feel what they feel. My first book by K.J Jackson and I was not disappointed. Can’t wait to read the next instalment in the series!!!

Couldn't put in down
Loved the story, a triumph over adversity. Both the main characters were complex and interesting. A fabulous read for anyone who enjoys Regency Romance with a touch of grit.

A captivating read
This was a captivating read, I just couldn’t put it down! The story moved along at a very good pace and kept my interest throughout. Penelope and Strider had known each other since they were children but circumstances had them out of touch for many years. Now Penelope needs Strider’s help but Strider has changed and is now a powerful force in the underworld. There is a mystery to both of their backgrounds and some villains with which to contend. Also some heartbreaking and passionate scenes. This is the first in a new series and I can’t wait for the next!

ARC : excellent story and unexpected
Another excellent beginning to another series. K J Jackson has a brilliant way of introducing characters in previous series and makes you want to get to know their story. We meet Strider firstly in the final book of Box of Draupnir series, this book is his his story and its brilliant. He and his childhood friend Pen must survive the cruel streets after a fire destroys there home, to save Pen he cruelty pushes her away. Years later she seeks him out for help out of a predicament with vile son of her companion. In turn for his help she will return to Strider a belonging she forgot she had and has hidden it ever since. They journey accross countryside together untangling mysteries, and feelings. In true fashion to KJ writing a rollercoaster of emotions come through. I honestly did not see the villain in this book and I did think that some characters could have been even worse, so I was nicely supprised at the conclusion. Eager to get the next one in the series.I received an ARC for an honest review.

Gave Up
Sorry I got a quarter of the way into the book and just couldn’t continue. The story is a familiar one that has been excellent by some other authors. This one was poor. Just words on a page. I couldn’t feel any depth or true connection between the leads. Disappointing writing here so gave up.

Another must read!!
What a start to a new series! This is linked and follows on from the Box of Draupnir series and does not fail to meet the quality of that series. The story line is involved and deals with some deep emotional issues, again carrying on the mantle from the previous series. Pen and Strider are believable characters thrust into an awful situation as young children after being very happy and well cared for. They manage to survive though are separated until years later Pen finds him. There are some extremely stressful occurrences which they both have to come to terms with before a final happy ending.I thoroughly enjoy K J Jackson’s books. They are gripping stories with very real characters and she doesn’t avoid the fact that people are not perfect and do not always do the right thing. I received an ARC and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Please read this, you’ll be hooked, as I am.

Excellent !!
I love this book. I love the storyline. Very dynamic deep characters that were not perfect but perfectly imperfect. There's love was pure and raw but not without hardships to get through. I loved this book from beginning to end I literally couldn't put it down and read within two days. I fell love with characters in this book. the book had it all love, adventure, and mystery. It was just very well done. This is my first book by the author definitely will not be my last.

A good tread
A historical romances go, this is one of the good ones. There is a solid story, good character development, satisfying pacing, and a believable HEA. The two main characters have overcome much in their lives in order to find their way back to each other. On the downside, the threats of both physical and sexual violence against Pen, the female protagonist, were at times, excessive. Additionally, there were a couple of “just in the nick of time” solutions to some very knotty problems. Last but not least, there was an almost laughable reason given by the villain for his actions.Overall, this isn’t great literature, but it is a solidly good read despite a few flaws.

Light escapist love story.
The villains are stock, the heroine a traditional damsel in distress, the hero a secret noble (in both senses of that word), the plot complications include the almost obligatory kidnapping of the heroine and the HEA includes a happy family complete with a healthy male heir and an idyllic, prosperous, home life. In short, this novel is an amalgam of all the usual romance novel ingredients. With two slightly risque sex scenes. All in all, an easy read and also easily forgettable.

Price and Worth of Survival
Two orphans went separate ways after a year on the streets,: she into servitude, he into a dark underworld of vice and crime. This story explores the hopes, disillusion, desperate actions, distrust of society, regrets, feelings of worthlessness and other factors affecting the survival of both Penelope and Strider when they meet again as adults. The author draws these characters so well that I became emotionally tied into each personality. The action moved along well and I struggled to find a stopping point for a few hours rest. I recommend this book to historical romance readers who like characters of depth and estranged childhood friends to lovers trope.

Finding each other again
Loved the story of Pen and Strider. Bother orphaned in Belize with no one willing to help. After living on the streets for a year Pen was made to live with a pastors righteous family. She was nothing but a slave but had a place to sleep and food in her belly. When Strider finally made it back to England his fathers family rejected him. He wanted nothing but vengeance against then so he set out to ruin then. 17 yrs later Pen shows up at one of his gaming hell’s and asked for his help. Can these two put the past behind them even though Pen is harboring a huge secret about his past.A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.
