Amazing book to learn sewing if you are a beginner. Excellent book to improve sewing if you already know to sew.This book has all information and is much much better than the  The Sewing Book (Dk)  because you can create a whole wardrobe of clothes from it. There are patterns(lot of sizes included) for 6 skirts, 4 pants(Capri, palazzo etc), 4 jackets, 5 tops, 12 dresses. Each garment is unique and you can create it from scratch to suit your measurement (by selecting right size of pattern). The method of making is explained in super big photographs. Every step is photographed so you can never go wrong while stitching.The overview of contents I can brief below:All tools required for sewing, about ironing tools, overlock machine, sewing machine accessories, Then comes the big chapter on fabrics, complete description of types of fabrics with their use and clear big photograph. The photos of fabrics are so clear you can easily make out the weave, texture everything. Then a lot of information on taking measurements, Altering for perfect fit. Pages on how to place fabric on cloth while cutting ,the detailed layout plan for various prints. Then a huge section on hand stitches, machine stitches, zip insertion in clothes, facings, neckline construction and finishing, collars -how to stitch, waistbands construction,hemming , lot of pocket styles explained -how to stitch them , button types and their attachments - and much more.Later chapters are about every single garment construction explained above in the review. Final chapters deal with a lot of tips to repair clothing. Different types of faults that occur in clothing and how to mend them. Then the chapter on embellishing existing clothes to add more life to them and make them grander.The patterns can be drawn using the diagrams at the back, or copyshop to enlarge them, Or plain and simply print them out, the book explains how.This hardbound book is worth its weight in gold for any one who loves stitching

Great book. Has lots of basic information. But makes one too dependent on patterns.

Came across this recommendation from an online sewing site. Excellent book. Only started sewing a couple of months ago and this book makes me feel much more independent and has given me the courage to try new skills. Note there are two versions of this book as the author updated it. I don’t know whether it would be worth checking it out before making a final decision. However I have no regrets with this one

All the photos and step-by-step instructions are much appreciated for a newbie like me. I feel this is the kind of book I will keep for years and go back to many times to reference.

Good book for begginers, lots of pictures and easy to read

je recommande l'achat pour les couturières débutantes ou intermédiaires autodidactes.Photos claires et explications bien faites. Les patrons sont assez compliqués pour assembler si imprimées sur une imprimantes à la maison, mais utilisables.
