My take on having just used the Cafflano for the first time:As a journalist who travels a lot to places where I can't find fancy third wave coffee shops, having a light portable brewer-mug combo like the Cafflano could indeed come in handy. I got one as a gift and I wasn't sold on the idea. I tried it head-to-head with my V60 with identical variables. As I was using the Cafflano, I thought there was no way it was going to work. The brewer basket seems too small, I couldn't seemingly get enough water in to saturate and bloom properly, and while pouring I was constantly worried the grounds were going to spill over. However I was shocked to discover as I tasted against a very nice cup I had just made with my V60 that the taste was quite comparable. A little heavier maybe and it lost one or two of the more subtle floral notes, but I was very impressed; if someone had switched my cups I'm not entirely confident I could have told them apart. And I was primed for disappointment. A note: I was thrown by the seeming instability of the brewer cup (indeed, why not make a third or fourth notch to eliminate rocking?) but I discovered that when it's weighed down with grounds and the water starts pouring, the weight seems to keep the cup from moving.For a road trip I will still probably take my small V60 since space isn't an issue and it's much easier to use. However when I have to pack light, this is a nifty and tasty solution, especially for the price.
