Great detail and size!
I collected old star wars action fleet toys from the 90's and I especially loved the look of the Star Destroyer, so I collected them whenever I could. From the small micro machines to the bigger kenner collectors fleet ships, I couldn't get enough. It wasn't until recently that I discovered the Revell Snaptite fleet and gave it a go with Poe's X-Wing, looking to expand my collection. I loved the look and detail on that X-Wing so I tried some of their other Snaptite Models and even checked their website and was super excited to find that they were releasing a Star Destroyer in late October. I really couldn't wait for this thing to get in stock and was super happy to see that amazon had it in stock a week early! Buy it here if you can, it's listed at $35 on their website not including shipping.First off, snapping this thing together is a fun and simple, it's a level 2 and says it can take up to an hour but I completed it in about 15 min. It's at the same level as the AT-ACT model, for reference I was able to do that one quicker than this. I did find that after putting this thing together that it didn't have the best seams, so if you are super particular about it being perfect, you may want to try using some glue. Though all in all, it's really hard to notice unless you really look carefully. The size is great and the sounds & lights are a nice touch, which includes a button at the bottom that sits flush with the bottom of the ship. It also includes built in stands for display which is great. There are freely rotating turrets on the sides similar to Revell's Millennium Falcon with the top and bottom side turrets. The lights only effect the 3 main engines in the back, there are no lights in the front and the smaller engines don't light up either which is a bit of a downside. The detail on this thing is really great, I think it looks better than my Kenner from 20 years ago.Pictured: the Revell Star Destroyer is in the middle, on the right is my Kenner collectors fleet Star Destroyer as well as Revell's Snaptite Poe's X-Wing and the die cast Black Series Tie Inquisitor to show scale.P.S. Revell, if you're listening, PLEASE release a Super Star Destroyer! It's the most iconic ship in star wars and it's impossible to find anything in a similar price range or age group.

review
I almost cringe to write this review, I truly do. the reason? it might help to increase the popularity of this kit, and raise the price. still, for all you out there, old timers, and younger, as a sci-fi and star wars lover, I have to do this. this kit... I started buying star destroyers when I was a teen, bought 2 of the very 1st releases. it wasn't bad for the time. I also got several of the 'next gen' releases, with 'enhanced' details. well, THIS is the one I always HOPED would be released! if you remember the battlestar galactica ship release in the 70's, and the new, Mobius version out now, you know the new kit totally does justice to the galactica, where the old one didn't. THAT is the difference between the other releases of the star destroyer, and this one! the detailing is great, and the tooling? wonderful! what few gaps there are are small and in out-of-the-way places. easy fixes! the detailing is sooo much fun! unless fine molds releases one of these, THIS IS the one you want!!all my other, earlier versions are now 'obsolete', regulated to the kids toys or the greebly box. I compared my new destroyer to my original and 2nd gen(same frame mold, slightly better details), to my new one. at the base, its about an inch wider, slimming as you go forward. its also about an inch longer than previous releases. the unfortunate addition of 3,(one forward, one on each side at the back.) parts that go from the frame to being base parts, can be fixed with putty easily. hopefully the with the 2nd gen of this they will do that change. the middle of the ship, between the top and bottom pieces, is ALOT more narrow, and adds tons to the look. hands down, buy this! I hope amazon posts this, I don't think I could recreate this review - but this kit is awesome!

Simple enough for an 8-year old to build then play with afterwards!
My 8-year old loved this and several other Revell SnapTite Build & Play models. It was simple enough that he could put them together on his own, challenging enough to let him feel like he accomplished something, and he ended up with a fun toy to play with afterwards. I'll be looking to give this as a gift to other kids as well in the future! This is the only model of the 7 I purchased for Christmas that didn't come with any sounds, just FYI. It still looks great & fun to play with.UPDATE 1/6/18: My son just found a button on the bottom of the ship that makes sounds and lights up the engine, so never mind. This one makes sound, too, and is just as fun as the others!

Very nice, but issues with battery cover.
It's a pretty accurate replica. It's solid once assembled. It was a good value at $24.99 in 2017. You have to hold the button down to operate the sound and lights. Once you remove your finger it shuts off. The foldable back "feet" on the underside to not operate smoothly. It takes several attempts to close one. The battery cover is a poor design. It was difficult to remove. Once removed, it could not be put back in place without some minor adjustments from my Dremel tool. Expect to keep it displayed once assembled. I did not see any easy way to remove the bridge section to fit it back in the box for storage.

Best large mass-market Star Destroyer model yet
I was expecting, for the price, something closer in size to the old die-cast Star Destroyer from Kenner that was the first one I ever owned -- remember the little Blockade Runner that came with it, and got lost almost as quickly as it came out of the box? I was pleasantly surprised that instead it's every bit as large as the much-criticized MPC/AMT/Ertl model that for years was the only mass-market scale model of this iconic ship. But size is where the similarities end -- oh, and they're both triangular. This Revell version is 12 parsecs better than the old kit. Proportions, details, ease of construction -- everything about it is better.Slight imperfections of the type that always plague snap-tite models, some seams that can easily be closed with glue and putty -- if you want to. This would make either a great toy for older kids (7 or 8+) or the basis of some serious accurizing, detailing, and lighting by more serious modelers.
