After plenty of research, I settled on the Coway Airmega Mighty, and it’s been a genuinely impressive bit of kit. The air feels fresher within a few hours of switching it on, and as someone with allergies and mild asthma, I’ve noticed I’m sleeping better and waking up clearer. Set-up is as simple as it gets – just plug in and go. It has four fan settings (low, medium, high, and auto), and I tend to keep it on auto so it adjusts itself as needed. The top-mounted controls are responsive and clearly labelled, and if the glowing air quality light is distracting at night, you can turn it off easily by holding a button. I live in a small bungalow, and keeping the unit in the central hallway works well for the whole space. It’s light enough to move between rooms, and I sometimes reposition it if a particular area needs attention. Now, a word of warning: if it detects poor air quality and ramps up to high, it can be very loud—like a mini jet engine kicking in. It’s effective, but you’ll definitely hear it. If it goes off at night in a bedroom, prepare to be woken up! That said, I’d rather have a moment of noise than breathe in nasties. Design-wise, it looks sleek and modern, though let’s be honest—it does resemble the front of a washing machine. It’s quite deep, too, with the air outlet sticking out at the back, so measure your space carefully. The filters last well (officially up to a year), but I give mine the occasional hoover to stretch them further. If you’ve got pets, expect to replace the filters more frequently—a friend with dogs recommended this to me and they burn through filters a lot faster. I’ve been using the Coway Airmega for months now, and it’s made a noticeable difference in air quality. It’s quiet, efficient, and the filters work well to remove dust, allergens, and odors. I purchased this in July 2022 and it’s been on pretty much continuously 24/7 ever since. My partner has all sorts of allergies and suffers a lot, having to take antihistamines etc especially at night in the summer time. We also have cats and ongoing battle with mould in the house. Since using this product I’ve seen a dramatic improvement in my partners symptoms, so I’m sure it works! The amount of dust, cat fur and other nasty things that accumulates on the washable pre filter is disgusting! I regularly vacuum the house so it’s surprising the amount that this collects. The pre filter is washable and manufacture recommends cleaning every 2-4 weeks. Easy to do I usually just wipe it off and run it under the tap. It has an indicator to tell you when to replace the odour and hepa filters. The indicator is smart and is based on actual usage as opposed to fixed amount of time. The filters aren’t the cheapest, I just paid £40 directly from the manufacturer for a hepa filter and 2 odour filters. Considering this will last me a year that’s about £0.11 a day which given the benefits of using this is well worth it.. I haven’t tried aftermarket filters, I wouldn’t this product is very well engineered and I wouldn’t trust any cheaper 3rd party filters to be 100% as effective. The air quality sensor is incredibly good and reacts so quickly. I no longer smoke but use vapes, if I take a couple of puffs over the other side of the room it notices immediately and speeds up to filter. Changing bedding it always goes red and speeds up. Opening loft hatch it went red. There’s always a reason why and it never does it randomly which is good. It’s quiet on the lower settings. I run it in auto mode. It’s a bit noisy when it goes into high speed but it doesn’t ever stay there for long as it’s so powerful it quickly clears the contaminants. It’s a decent size, you need to make sure to leave some space around it to for it to work properly. Quality is great. If there could be one improvement it would be on the air intake cover. Dust sticks there and it’s awkward to clean. I ended up taking it apart which I don’t think the manufacture intended. It’s only a few screws but there’s a small magnet that fell out without me noticing. This magnet is essential for it to work it tells the machine the cover is on. Now I know it’s there it’s no issue to take apart and clean.

Bought 2 of these, one for downstairs and one for bedroom as missus has allergies. They seem ok, very simple to use and clean. Silent on the lowest setting but it gets very loud. My only problem are the sensors, both machines suddenly ramp up to max speed for no apparent reason in the middle of the night and this will wake you up, sounds like a tornado on max! Annoying and apart from turning it off completely doesn't seem to be anyway of stopping it doing this automatically! One side note I have seen comments saying the sensor light is too bright with no way to turn it off. There is, you just have to hold the button for 3 secs :)

I purchased this air purifier back in December and I've now been using it for over 3 months. I absolutely love it. I've had cheaper purifiers as well as a VERY expensive Dyson. This is, hands down, the best I've owned. So much so, I recently ordered another. It's powerful and, unlike the others, when I walk past it, it actually feels like a literal breath of fresh air and makes the room feel completely fresh. It has various settings, 1 to 3, plus an eco setting which means it automatically adjusts its output to the air condition. This is great for economy and general every day use. I'll switch mine up to 2 or 3 to just give the room a nice blitz after hoovering etc. It has a switch-off timer as well and a colour-changing light which indicates the air quality visually. It's super simple to use and easy to work out. I do like the option of having a remote control or app (like with the Dyson) so you can adjust from afar, but I like the white colour unit which doesn't have that option and it's absolutely fine (less to go wrong!!). If you do want this option, there is a black version with this facility. My Dyson was 3 times more expensive, it has a pump column which keeps breaking (and costs £60 a time to replace). It also prompts you to replace the filter way more often than is necessary... I've learned to override that but I've now realized it's just a money-making/marketing thing and is not necessarily the best on the market. I can just feel the difference with this and I've read reviews commenting on the Coway's longevity and functioning and after 3.5 months, I've been impressed. It seems pretty robust and heavy duty. It's not small but it looks nice in the room. If you are looking for something compact or somethingw with a hundred gadgets and settings, then maybe this model is not for you. If function, simplicity and effectiveness are more important to you, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this air purifier.

I don’t want to knock Dyson too much as I have 9 of their products. But this completely annihilates Dyson on price, what I feel is the quality of the air and most importantly is how silent it is at night. As you can probably guess I have this in my bedroom and the reason I moved over from Dyson was over four years I’ve had the Dyson product has become very noisy and was making it hard to sleep at night. In addition to this because the model is four years old now the filters from Dyson were really expensive and it was virtually impossible to purchase the filters from the Dyson site so I ended up having to spend about £65 per filter. This one has filters that cost about £20. The only disadvantages are that this does not produce a stream of air to call you down in the summer (but quite honestly the Dyson didn’t produce a particularly strong flow of air either). And also there is no app so you can monitor the quality of the air. However the ability to analyse the air is really quite pointless. It’s nice to have and it’s something I would show my friends but in reality this system is perfect because you just switch it on and forget about it. I have to make it clear that when the air quality does drop and it kicks in to a higher speed level it can be noisy but it does not disturb your sleep and quite frankly it does such a good job of cleaning the air that it’s rare that it kicks in to a high fan rate. I would highly recommend this product and if you do currently have a Dyson which you find noisy I personally felt the cost was justified just to get a good nights sleep plus over the years it will pay for itself with the cost saving from the filters (although it will take a few years to pay it back).

I did an enormous amount of research before settling on this air purifier - Reddit speaks very highly of it and I’ve not been disappointed. It’s sensitive and triggers in to action even when I’m cleaning - hopefully it’s scrubbing the air of viruses and bacteria as well 🤞🏼. It also reacts quickly to cooking smells, sweaty feet and perfumes! This is a fairly large, solidly built machine with a useful carry handle, but as it looks like a speaker I think it blends more than a traditional one. Sound-wise, the 2 dot setting is quiet but when it jumps in to ‘full on clear the air’ setting, it’s noticeable in the living room (louder than the tv) - and louder than our old Levoit (now seems puny in comparison) - so all in all - I love it and I’m really enjoying the clean air! I don't have the ioniser on full-time, and love that it can be on or off - the light indicates air quality but that can be turned off as well if you have it in the bedroom. Buy it!!
