Very one-sided & politically motivated
I did not enjoy this book at all. While I can see some value in the translanguaging theory, it does not tell you how to wean students off the home language to the native language. It is so politically driven: saying that English is the "power language". When I went to school in Mexico, I didn't think of Spanish as the "power language", I just thought of it as the language to communicate there. The author's distaste of the English language permeates each chapter. I have been a language specialist for years. I did not see that this would help my students move into full language acquisition. I believe it is a temporary scaffold that should be used in a limited way.
