Bella Italia: Nostalgia, Swing, Canzone, Jazz

I can't say that I know much about Italian pop of the 40's & 50's, but find this very evocative. Here I am in Italy (Friuli) and sorry to say I've not enjoyed any of the background clatter (so much of it from the States...) as much as this collection. Contrary to the subtitle, there's next to no Jazz here, but certainly nostalgia and canzone.(Where's my Italian girlfriend??)

this collection has many older songs - almost all scratchy or recorded from albums not recorded well. or perhaps the recording studio didnt have good equipment. yet the odd thing is that (at least i do) many like old-time sound with its 'romantic' warmth. except here perhaps the singer sounds too far away or similar technical issues so you dont even get the classic nice sound.would have been at least MAYBE acceptable if they included more well-known titles. but most songs and artists are obscure. also whoever chose the songs seemed to like alot of instrumental at the beginning of songs. finally midway through the song the voice comes in. so for most songs you dont get singing until the tune is half played.collection is ok for a historian studying early italian music and/or really likes this type of thing and really needs a certain song(s) to complete a collection.stick with collections with songs recorded at least in the 50's to present. anything before that and its hit or miss. especially from foreign record companies.

Die CD wurde nicht von Masterbändern sondern von Schellackplatten mit dumpfem Klang, das von lautem Knistern übertönt wird gefertigt. (Bis auf sehr, sehr wenige Ausnahmen).Außerdem sind 8 Nummern doppelt enthalten.

♪ざっくり言うと、以前レビューさせて貰った『Cafe Roma』(注:ノット・ナウ盤とは別コンピ)と同傾向の―つまりはアメリカのスウィング・ミュージックから少なからず影響を受けた、“イタロ MCP”の貴重な録音をメインに据えた、10枚入り廉価 CD Box-set である!!イメージ的にはそうだなぁ…『ローマの休日』(1953)でオードリーや G.ペックがロケをしている最中に、スペイン広場のカフェあたりで流れていたに違いない(?)当時のイタリアン・ポップスの一大絵巻とでも言おうか―♪我が国でもカンゾンというかカンツォーネのファンは結構多いが、そのほとんどはミーナとかミルヴァとかトニー・ダララとか、1960年代「サンレモ音楽祭」華やかなりし頃の、いわばオールディーズ的な色合いの濃いアーティストたちを贔屓にしているようにも思える―だから彼らよりは一世代程前の、このセットでメインを張るような往時の代表的なパフォーマーらの唄声を聴ける機会は滅多になく、その意味からも非常に新鮮な聴きものと言えよう。♪有名どころはヴァレンテとかドメニコ・モドゥーニョ、マントヴァーニとそれくらいだが、絶妙なコーラスを聴かせるクァルテート・セトゥラとか、ジャズ系のナタリーノ・オットーとか、知られざる演者の中にも才能の閃きを感じさせる逸材が少なくない。♪嬉しいのは、テナー歌手が朗々と唱い上げる典型的なイタリア民謡ふうトラックはさほど無く、あくまでポップス中心な点―「ノスタルジア〜スウィング〜カンゾン〜ジャズ」というサブタイ通りの内容である。♪一部音質に難点があったり、同じトラックが重複して入っていたりと、廉価レーベルゆえの詰めの甘さはあるが、貴重かつ楽しめるセットだ!!
