but arguably better than E6B
For those of you deciding between the CR3, CR6, or E6B.E6BCons: Kinda obnoxious with wind computations, cardboard or aluminum materialPros: You probably already have oneCR3Cons: Winds are different and a little more complicated, but arguably better than E6B. It also can't be improvised as a plotterPros: Much better feel with build quality versus the CR6, and spinning is as smooth as butter. Provides every function plus more than the E6B. Few things you can do on the wind side (cos & sin) like find descent rate with GS and angle, find precise wind components, VOR point to point navigation, wind correction angle etc, and the front side includes TAT window, mach number, cursor for precision etc. Jeppesen.com/cr for instructions.CR6Cons: Made of flimsier plastic that CR3, inner wheel has the same radius as the outer wheel, so it can be hard to use if holding the edges, develops very small warp from flimsier materialPros: Newest version of the CR design, updated larger font, yellow color for high contrast / easy to read in dark conditions, additional recovery coefficients and mach window has more precisionI personally find the CR3 to be the best. I will admit the black on grey isn't the best color, but you will get used to it. I see some other gentleman was having issues with precision versus his E6B. I can testify that the one they sent me is just as precise as all my other wheels. I'm led to believe that he just didn't set it correctly.

Great classic. Does a lot.
Got used to this computer back in the day when I worked as a charter pilot and instructor. Glad to see Jep still makes them. As always this is a well built, smoothe and accurate tool. "No batteries required" and gives "good enough" results.

still an important pilot tool
Everyone flying today is using electionic flight gear but the old ways are still important. If you can master a circular computer then you truly understand the fundamentals of flight planning and best thing, no batteries. this is right up to Jeppesen standards and I like like the colors.

Easy to read and still fun to use!
Just like the CR computer you might have used all those years ago when you were learning to fly and had great eyesight...but on a larger, easier to read size. As much as I love my CR-5 computer for its small size, my eyes don’t. So when I decided to take a few FAA written exams for a few more certificates, I broke down and got this. Worth every penny to avoid the eye strain and headache that comes with it. Do yourself a favor and make it easy for your eyes. Besides, the larger size seems to be more accurate, for what that’s worth!

Readability and Accuracy Could Be Improved
I should have gotten the CR-3 with the yellow background. The black numbers on grey background is a little difficult to read. The device is reasonably accurate but not as accurate as my old cardboard E6B. I was surprised by this. Maybe it is be a production issue. On the good side I really enjoy calculating my course and crosswind corrections much better on the CR3 compared to the same operation on the E6B. Better than an E6B.
I couldn't tell you WHY I like the CR-3 more than the standard e6b, I just do. it might be because it is larger, and feels better/less flimsy in my hands. It could also be because the instruction book PDF that you get online is hilarious. Whatever the reason, I prefer the CR-3

Way better than the old E6B
I learned on an MB4 in SUNT (undergraduate navigator training) back in the 1980s. These are easier to use and have a lot more capability in a easy to handle package/size. They're both great computers and a pilot should be able to use his slide rule like a master - before he uses his iPhone/ to calc it. Old school is a must in this unforgiving activity.

Exactly the same as 30 years ago
I lost my CR-3 and was wanting to get another one. It is too expensive for me to fly now, so it is just used for the flight simulator. After all these years I finally got around to replacing it and the memories it brings back. It is exactly as I remember my first one 30 years ago. This had to be shipped to Australia, and it arrived within the timeframe that they estimated. Very happy with the product and the delivery.
