Q: Can this work to run audio signal for long runs or is this only for lighting? I'm using xlr input into powered speakers. Thanks

Yes, Data cable can be used for audio signals (analog or digital) up to 300'. I would strongly suggest using shielded cat for digital audio especially as a connection between a digital audio console and a stage rack I/O or DAW. There are 3-pin (XLR) versions of these adapters which are better suited for audio.
