Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests, Sixth Edition

THE most helpful book!
I am a new nurse and always have trouble remembering important information about diagnostic tests (Does my patient need to be NPO? Should I hold certain medications?). This book is my best friend. Contains helpful information you need to remember about every single diagnostic test offered in a hospital! Take this as a sign- you need this book!

american data
wanted a british based diagnostic testing reference- not clear from the blurb that this is american. for this reason not much use to me.

is good as a one stop reference
Every practitioner steps out of her / his boundaries and comfort zone occasionally in the interest of the patient. This book makes it safe for all concerned. I can not understand why the authors did not include a chapter on modalities of imaging other than echo cardiography and why they did not included a list of clinical red flags such as for cauda equine in the algorithm section. This would have not added more than 20 pages to the book, widened its appeal, would have made it more compelling and a best seller.

Recommend
Easy to use, a lot of information in such a small book. Has a lot of quick reference tables that are applicable to practice.

Sometimes less is more
Back in Med school I stumbled upon this book. I have used it ever since. For me anyway, I need a little info to jog my memory, or just a little physiology so things makes sense. It is a pocket guide and so I never expected it to replace "Guyton". I do recommend this book, it's a quick reference, clear and concise. I feel it is a little gem.
