Small, easy to carry, effective Wifi adapter
This is a very small, easy to use Wifi Adapter. To my surprise, on a windows 8.1 laptop, just plugging it in when you are in an area that your machine's Wifi works is fast and seamless. After that, you should turn off your computers wifi and you should be good to go. My problem was not signal strength. While it was not great, the signal had to go thru at least 4 walls and the result was a signal, but while not obvious, the return signal from the laptop was not always getting to the router. Installed this and now get 5 bars, and a very fast, consistent signal. Can also now see 7 other systems in the area (versus 5 before), and the 5 I could just see are now 3 to 5 bars. Looking outside, that would indicated that this can pickup a strong signal from the houses around us, at least 200 ft. You can get a choice of stronger antenna, but for here, this is a major improvement.Update: Stupid me did not scroll down the list of stations...turns out it is actually 17 not 7. Given that we live on a single street, that would mean we are getting signals from roughly 4 houses away in both directions, and both sides of the street. Rather amazing actually.

Used for several years... great product..
I was only getting 2 bars at the RV resort where I live, due to too many trees and other RVs in the way, and could not get online at all... Bought this antenna, ran the software, and in 5 minutes, I was online. Works great, and very easy to set up and use.

Good adapter if used correctly....
This is a decent adapter. The range is very good but not great. If you want the best performance then use an antenna connected directly to the adapter or a high gain antenna with a cable as short as possible. The included antenna's cable is far too long (signal loss) and will make it harder to pull in the weakest signals. If using with a USB extension, beware this unit is very sensitive to interference, thus only a quality cable will work without data errors unless I had a lemon... The software is very good for monitoring signal quality and data rates but offers little for tweaking settings on the adapter.Item was shipped fast and does work with Windows 8 and 10.

Worked great while it worked though
I bought mine on October 13th, 2014. Not even a month later and it stopped working completely. Worked great while it worked though. Wouldn't waste my money again. I do not suggest this product.

Great range
I am really astounded by the range this thing has. It picked up my WiFi signal from 150 feet away through a house, around a corner, through a metal shed and into the building where I live. The building is metal also, but I placed the antenna in a window. The cord from the antenna to the attachment on the USB plug is nice and long.I decided to get this one over the $99 one, figuring that I did not need to pull a signal from a mile away. But I might pick that one up in the future if I find myself in an even MORE rural area.
